The North Shore Agency sent us a "NOTICE OF INTENT" to collect $51.47 for a supposed renewal to People Magazine. The renewal was NEVER authorized and futhermore no magazines were ever received after the original subscription term ended.

I see this as an unethical attempt to scam us out of the $51.47. I am not sure how they justify their claim, but I do know either the Agency or the People Magazine are in error or I am a victum of a collection scam.

One should be cautious of any renewal notices if you are a subsciber to People Magazine.

Also, dispute the alleged debt in writing

You probably should send the collection agency a letter, via certified mail, that you dispute the validity of the alleged debt.  Send a photocopy of your letter to People Magazine.

If they keep hounding you after you dispute it writing, contacting your state's Attorney General can sometimes help get the rouge debt collectors off your back.

Followup action I have taken in an attempt to stop North Shore from continuing their scam. Others might consider doing the same.

I neglected to mention that I have contacted my State's Dept of Consumer Affairs and the US Postal Inspection Services by mail
I also filed an electronic complaint at "www.consumer.gov" a data base maintained by the U. S. Federal Trade Commision.

I'm not sure what any of them will do, but I suspect if others who were scamed like me would file, action from one or more of the government agencies would be more likely to occur.
