North Shore Agency / This Old House Mag. North Shore Agency threatens collection for canceled This Old House Mag subscription New York/New York Internet
Some two years ago, while at the Seattle Home Show, I signed up for a FREE one year subscription to This Old House Mag. Over the following twelve mounths I received ONE issue. Shortly before my "subscription" ended I received a "renew" offer of one year for $5.00 which I decided to try as I do like what the magazine has to offer.
In less than two months I began getting billing notices from TOH Mag for $12.95. After several of these I sent to TOH a cancelation letter, written on the back of the $5.00 renewal, as they were not honoring the offer they had sent.
The most recent occurence in this saga is a letter from the "North Shore Agency Inc.", a self proclaimed "collection agency", demanding payment of $12.95... for a $5.00 subscription... that was STOPPED.
I have since, after more then an hour of repeated attempts, finally talked to a pleasant and helpfull customer service woman at TOH, who admitted that NSA Inc. is an "in house agency" of TOH ( or of Time Inc. its parent company) and that they, TOH, would rectify the situation by, refunding my $5.00, extending my "subscription" for a year, and then assured me that NSA Inc. could not and would not submit any action that would affect my credit rating. We will see.
