In Feb of 04 I entered into what I thought was a fair and honest contract for the lease of a credit card swipe machine in the amount of 29.95, per month for 48 months. The total amount they have debited from my account for the last 48 months is 37.37. I was also told that at the end of the 48 months the machine was mine, free and clear. In March of 08, I made my first call to Northern leasing systems and spoke to my first extremely rude "customer service" contact. She informed me that the machine was not mine, I owed 175.00 if I wanted to purchase it and they would continue to debit my account untill I either bought the machine or sent it back. In May I called back to get the mailing address to send them back this machine, as I refuse to give them any more money. Another rude agent, gave me the address and I was told that I had to send them the Machine, a letter stating why I was returning it ,a copy of my contract and it would take 30 days to finalize.
I sent the box with everything that was asked of me on the 3rd of June , priority mail with delivery confirmation, and they recieved it on June 5. I stated in the letter that I had to send them that it clearly stated on my contract that I paid the last month of the lease when the lease was signed, so that would apply to July and they were not authorized to debit money from my bank accounts again. In June, after I sent the machine I put a block on their debit and they went around that by sending 2 debits that added up to the 37.37, so I have since closed that account. They tried to debit in July and it obviously did not go through so they have already started calling my business and home, 10 times yesterday and it is only the 9th. I honored my part of the contract for 48 months, sent them their machine with everything they asked, have pre paid the last month as per the contract and they still have the gall to try to collect money for the month of July...I am sure that this will not end any time soon. I am telling every new small business owner to stay away from any type of credit card machine leasing scam, the machines are really cheap and 100% yours.
