Complaint Review: Norwegian Cruise Lines

Norwegian Cruise Lines Norwegian gave my child a room key that allowed him to charge nearly $2000 in an arcade. Miami FL

I took my mom and two children our very first cruise on Norwegian. At check in we were all given room keys, including my 11 year old autistic son. Because he is older, my son was allowed to check himself out of the kids club to go to the pool or to eat, etc.

The day before we got back to Boston, I was called and told I owed $1860 for video games in the arcade. What I did not know, because I have never been on a cruise, is that the room keys can be used to charge to the room account, even the children!

When I demanded a refund, the Norwegian staff blamed me for not having the charging capability blocked. But if I had no idea there was charging capability, then how would I know to block it? I am a divorced single mom that lives paycheck to paycheck.

Now I am in credit card debt and regret having ever taken that cruise. What a scam to let children charge thousands of dollars with no parental permission, then tell you after the fact. Shame on them!

..with your credit card company.  There is simply no way the cruise company can hold you responsible for debt accrued by a minor child, and the credit card company should have red-flagged the purchases immediately.

Get the credit card company to refuse payment and dare the cruise ship company to go after THEM.  Do this IMMEDIATELY, like YESTERDAY.   Good luck.
