Nova , Unscrupulous builder who didn't build our roof up to code, and now he refuses to replace it. Knoxville Tennessee
My husband and I purchased a brand new home from Nova Inc. in Aug. of 06'. A month after we moved in, our roof started leaking. We have a 1 year warranty with the builder. Nova did send out a roofer, but he came with the wrong size ladder and never came back. We told this to the builder, but he told us the roofer said he fixed it and he was going by what the roofer says.
We ended up having to hire our own roofer, and we were devastated by what he found. There is no felt underneath the shingles, and Nova's roofer put caulking on the shingles to try to conceal any leaks. Felt is standard for all roofs and is required per manufacturer standards. Our roofer took pictures of the roof as evidence, and estimated that it would cost about $6,500.00 to replace the roof.
I emailed the photos to Nova Inc. and they are still refusing to replace the roof. So far, my husband and I still don't have the situation resolved. We've recently filed a complaint with the State Commision Board who holds the builders license.
You're probably wondering why the County inspector didn't catch this serious flaw. The Knox County inspector's office informed me that they don't inspect roofs, because they're not allowed to get on ladders. It's apparent that the builder knew this information, and he tried to save some money by not installing essential materials on our roof.
If you plan on buying a new home in Knoxville, Tn I would hire a professional roofer to inspect the home first, and please beware of Nova Inc.
