Nu-Again - The Deck And Fence Renewal Company The "owner" Nathan Rothlisberger should be Worthlessberger! Service was non-existent and the end result was not worth a dime, let alone the thousands of dollars that are charged. DON'T BE DUPPED! South Elgin Illinois

The service SOUNDED good when Nathan rushed out to my home to give me an estimate. Unfortunately that was the last time that RUSH came into the equation.

The workers did not show up for weeks at a time. When they did show up they did not sand properly and subsequently started to stain over wood that was not sanded AND over paint drippings left on the deck.

When Nathan "Nate" was contacted it was our fault and not at all his or his workers or his company's fault. We were the idiots.

Nathan brought out a hand sander and attempted to fix the problem to no avail.

One year later we have buckled wood (not rotted as he would like to make out) that has buckled due to the deck NOT being sealed. The holes that have been caused due to the planks of wood lifting a buckling have caused a safety hazard for my family, just yesterday my son's leg fell through and bruised him up pretty badly. Thank goodness there were no broken bones.

I contacted Nate on his cell phone with NO return call. I called the office number and left a message and then received a return call that went to voice mail stating that he would be out in about a month to look at it. Obviously this was NOT acceptable, so I called Janet at the office only to be yelled at and told that there was nothing that she could do and that is the way it is, if I didn't like the date then that was my problem and subsequently hung up on me.

I then left a voice mail message on Nate's cell phone again appealing to his "father" side about the safety issue. He did call me back this time, however, in a ridiculing fashion told me that in 13 years he had never seen such a thing and that if the wood was rotting out, that I should call a carpenter. I tried to explain that it was NOT rotten, but buckled and that I would appreciate a member of his company to come out and see the damage and he fluffed me off telling me that if I think that the service was not performed well that I was crazy and that I should call the manufacturer of the product and have him explain the process to me.

The manufacturer's rep's name...NATHAN! UGH!!!!! I left him a message today and will update IF I hear back.

In the meantime, I will be seeking legal counsel and will not allow a snake to get away with bullying innocent people anymore.

In 2000, we had our deck completely stripped and refinished by Deck-Tech. It lasted for 5 seasons. When it came time to re-do the deck, we obtained numerous quotes and this time went with Nu-Again. Big mistake.

The prep work was substandard. The sanding process seemed to be done well, but the deck was not swept clean of the sanding debris. None of the nail pops were remedied per the proposal. And the stain was applied using a spray gun, which is the most inefficient method of application. Nothing was back-rolled or back-brushed. There was significant overspray on the house and our air conditioner unit. Ground plants surrounding the deck were also not covered properly, and many of the wound up dying.

They always took my phone calls, but empty promises were all we got.

The deck looked fine for one summer season. After the winter, it became apparent that the stain had not taken due to poor prep work. The next summer, we had Deck-Tech come back out to re-strip and re-stain/seal the deck.

Note that I am not promoting Deck-Tech, as I am certain that there are many good and reputable firms that can provide this service.

Final note. It seems that the rebuttal on this thread is less than genuine. A simple name search on ussearch.com indicates that there is no "Claire Foster" in St. Charles, IL, nor has such a person lived there in recent years.

Was Very Surprised To Hear The Bad Report On The Deck Refinishing Work

I have been a customer of Nu Again for years, as have several of my neighbors, both for cleaning and refinishing. A freind has family member who works for the company and told us about this site and the complaint, and I wanted to offer my own experience. I have had reason to offer negative feedback over the years regarding a variety of products and services, but was always more than pleased with Nathan and his employees.

I guess you could sum it up to say that the experience described was very surprising to us because our own experience was about as opposite as could be described. When each of us had repectively called Nate for various services over the years, the response was quick, and the work was delivered exactly as promised. We had one mix up on stain color and the crew went to amazing lengths to fix it on time for a party we were having. Most of our neighbors said that they had never seen a group of workers hustle like the Nu Again crew, and Nathan came out several times himself to inspect and supervise.

The care that has been taken in our work and that of the neighbors we sent to him over the past six years has been detail oriented and conscientious to a point that really impressed us. Whenever we called the office to pressure Nate or his secretary to hurry up an already expidited detail, we were met with an almost comical degree of polite desire to please.

We shared the complaint with customers to whom we had recommended Nathan over the years and they were as surprised as we were. While everyone who has enjoyed his nearly manic effort and attention to detail as satisfied customers here in our neck of the woods hopes that the disgruntled customer recieves satisfaction, we also want to applaud the entrepreneurial spirit of young local enterprises who strive hard to build a family business. We know that Nate provides jobs for his family members and other young men and we have overheard his employees speaking in glowing terms of his lovely wife and children. We hope that he takes the feedback in the complaint to heart but is not overly discouraged since we and many of our associates intend to continue to use and recommend him for years to come.
