I used NYSEG electric services from 12/2002 until 7/2003 when I moved out of the area. I dutifully paid in full each month, including the last final bill. Then NYSEG decided that I owe them an additional $1,100, none of their so-called explanations made sense. I never signed up for, or agreed to that $1,100 amount, and they could never substainstate it, so I refused to pay. I tried to work it out with NYSEG, who were nasty and refused to discuss the false billing issue.

I took it to the BBB, who also tried to work with them, but NYSEG never responded. Did you know that the BBB has an unsatisfactory rating for NYSEG? Or that 68 complaints have been filed in the last 36 months, half of which are in the last 12 months?

Anyway, now, five and a half years later, NYSEG is reporting the $1,100 as a NEW debt as of October 2008. This is causing my credit scores to plummet, and I can't get the home loan that I need. I'm looking into my legal options now, but BEWARE of NYSEG!!!
