Dear NYU Leadership and colleague,

It will be almost 1 year since Len Peter place Rich Milelinich on board, and it was been a year of complete destruction to NYU IT as you know it.

From the replacement to NYU Senior IT staff, to the bullying, and pushing out of the CISO, to the recent abuse against NYU engineer manager, which cause his departure, to the continue financial scam to benefit financially from the vendor who Rich and LEN now brought on board, without any additional benefits to our IT community.

Because the cahooting-relationship between  NYU HR department and CIO, and his relation to NYU President (Yale buddies), the report of this abuse is continuing this day.

Financial Abuse and corruption:  Rich M hired his buddies to perform the fist Firewall upgrade, costing in excess of $5million dollar (that more than all the Firewall purchase NYU has perfored in the past 4 years).  The company he hired was the same company he consulted in the past, taking kickback, and "french benefits" under Len's leadership without any care for NYU policies, accountability or consequence.

Today, the same company is planning to run a "pilot" program costing in access of a million dollar to test WIFI from Avaya, just because the company is a AVAYA Value Added reseller, with the potential of charging NYU million of dollars to replace more than 12,000 Access Point that has been providing support for our students and staff for over 5years without any significant service issue.  The reason:  kickbacks from Rich M. past employer to line his wallet, while Len sit back and do nothing.

There is no sound technical reason to waste million of dollars replacing WiFI, re-training staff (because there are no AVAYA staff on board now), but this project has been given the green light by Len.  The more they speak about "how critical" things are, the more you hear "this is my idea - this is how we did it at Yale, and It will work here"

THE FACTS:
NYU IT is the largest IT organization on the planet, with a bigger financial footprint that any other university on the plan.  We have more devices on our network than any other university, we have a larger IT Staff, providing more  IT services to more students than any other university.

The fact it, Len Peters and Mike does not have the leadership skills to lead a staff as diverse, and talanted as NYU Staff.  They don't have the experience managing a financial budget as large in their entire life.  THey have never manager a team as bit as NYU IT staffers.  They have never provided services that is as diverse globally as NYU Organization:  How the hell are they expected to lead NYU to the next generation when the fact is, they have no experience doing to.

YALE is about 1/20th the size of NYU IT.  Yale is 1/100th the complexity of NYU-IT infrastructure,
and Yale is 1/1000th the Global presence as NYU IT...these are not make up numbers - they are real.

The fact is - Len Peters is a friend of Andrew Hamilton, and Mike is a friend of Len Peters - it is no wonder, experience, leadership, high technical acumen, and being a good human being is NOT a requirement to lead NYU IT.  In face, we have seen quite the opposite over the year.

The DESTRUCTION  OF NYUIT:  When Len hired Rich M., Rich went around the office tell the NYU IT Team, "this is my department, and I will lead it, and run it how i see fit".  That is all nice and good, but what he was doing was trashing the staff, demanding absurde reports and making demands that would take weeks, and sometime months, but he wanted it in days.  But that was not the worst part, he questioned, and belittle senior staff like the CISO, and demanded the CISO remove the CISO title from his signature, although the CISO was still responsible for and performing the CISO duties.

Complains to Len peters drop on def ears, and during his exit interview, although the CISO make true and alarming document of what transpired, neither HR leadership nor Len peters payed any attention to the destruction that Rich was unleashing on the NYU IT staff.   All of this was being done, as the YALE Team migrated into NYU, with the assurance Len Peters would continue to cover for them, promoting them, while the abuse of Rich continue.

POOR LEADERSHIP:
The poor leadership and decision of Rich not only degrade the service NYU IT provided to the NYU Schools and community, but recommendation provided by Sr. NYU IT staff were cast-aside as if they were irrelevant and ill conceive.  For example, since NYU campus is a cluster of closely connected with IT infrastructure depending on staff responding quickly and easily to issues, Len and Rich, without consulting with Data Center team, moved the entire technician away for the campus cluster to Brooklyn.

When issues were address within 20-30minutes in the past, now it take several hours, while hundred of IT resources are down and unavailable.  This was due to poorly executed decision by Rich and Len without consulting with NYU IT data center team that are providing critical service and resolving incidents in a very efficient manner:  it is no longer possible since the staff has been stupidly move to Brooklyn.

POOR IT MORAL:
Have you gone to one of the the town hall?  it is like a comedy show.  There is almost NO feedback taken from IT staffers, not because they don't have anything to contribute, but because they are as scared to speak, because the input are never "good enough" for Len and Rich to hear, in their views.

As any of the IT Staffer you might speak with today, and read the off-boarding reports from the Sr. Staffers and you will surely see what destruction Len Leadership with Rich M has done to NYU over the past year.

Fellow NYU Staffer:  I want you to spread the word about what is going on within NYU IT so that when you see decision that is complete detached from NYU's police being implemented, everyone will know who is responsible.

Andrew Hamilton, like the HR department is turning a blind-eye to the destruction on NYU IT.
We're planning a protest at the front of Andrew Hamilton office in the comming weeks,
and I'll setup a website so you can be informed on this event

We spend more time working in NYU IT than we spend doing anything else in our life.  We should not suffer at the hands of Len Peter and Rich M, while they bask from the fruit of their financial corruption - just because Andrew Hamilton is their PAL.

Rich Mikelinich Rebuttal

The falsehoods in this report are too many to answer but I must comment on a few. Obviously someone had some limited understanding of the events.

The purchasing of firewalls was done throufgh the NYU preferred vendor called Myriad 360, my preferred vendor was rejected by purchasing, Myriad did a great job and we used them several more times after that.

There was gross negligence in network engineering as multiple maintenance bulletins from Cisco were not followed up, coupled with years of refresh deferments left the network very fragile and susceptible to outages.

There was gross negligence in security and server administration as no patches had been applied for years, thi8s was made up in about a year but it was a high cost on personnel.

CIO wanted Aruba not Avaya consulted for a possible replacement of wireless.

CIO,not a friend, had me outsourced in '19. As to the cited destruction, my implementation of tech refresh and production assurance methods brought stability to the fragile networks and had user confidence restored. CIO limited that success by inexplicably pausing refresh for months but I think its back underway now.
