Went in to O'Reilly Auto Parts, Hwy 7, Blue Springs, MO to get a brake light switch for a 98 Ford Escort. Was a little frustrated since I had to drive the Escort there with the brake lights not working properly and mentioned my concern and that I did not want to drive any further than I had to in order to get the part for traffic safety reasons and of course the possibility of getting a ticket and car towed. The person ordering the part for me rubbed his hands together and smiled a big smile when I asked the price: $35 (and change). Got home and called Advance Auto Parts, Blue Springs, MO. The price of the same part is $26.79. I have never compared pricing on these two businesses before. But I am very suspicious when I realized near $10 difference in price and wonder if the guy at O'Reilly jacked up the price thinking I would not go anywhere else. So I called O'Reilly to cancel the order and told them I found it for $10 less at Advance Auto Parts, the O'Reilly employee did not offer any discount on their part, and when I said: 'thanks for trying to rip me off', he said: 'not a problem'.

Not trying to make you look like an idiot but he did say brake light switch--not light--and why didn't the employee offer the item in master pro?

Are you serious?  You are saying that you have never had one store charge you more than another for an item?

I guess when this guy rubbed his hands together that was a signal that he was getting some magical power to increase the cost of the part.  I am surprised that you didn't accuse him of trying to personally pocket the increase.

You're an idiot. Different companies charge different prices for parts. Further, your story is unbelievable. Why would any auto parts store have to order a light for an Escort? That is a stock item.

You're a competitor trying to slander the name of a good company.
