My father, a retired 100% service-connected disabled veteran, suffered a massive stroke in Jan 2013 that left him confined to a wheelchair and unable to verbally communicate-a speech impairment referred to as Expressive Aphasia. I am now his caregiver as well as Power of Attorney. Just prior to his stroke he made a verbal agreement to sell his Harley Davidson on CONSIGNMENT with the owner Rob Wilkinson, (known as "Chop" or "Chopper") of O School Choppers, 5725 S Valley View Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89118. My father had done several business transactions over the past few years with Chop including motorcycle servicing, repairs, and purchases of merchandise, and believed Chop to be a trustworthy "friend". A verbal agreement to place my father's motorcycle for sale on consignment was made just prior to my father's stroke and solidified with a handshake and incomplete generic invoice, merely stating the date, name, yr/make/model/VIN, and to "SELL BIKE" without a fee for service listed. While my father was still being hospitalized for 5 weeks following his stroke, my husband visited Chop at O School Choppers to inform him of my fathers medical situation and to check on any interest or inquires made in regard to the sale of the bike. Chop offered his condolences and asked my husband to deliver his assurance to my father that his motorcycle was safe and sound at O School Choppers. My husband left his contact information with Chop in the event of a potential buyer inquired about the bike. Over the course of the following 14 months my father's Harley sat displayed for sale on the showroom floor at O School Choppers. My husband, regularly stopped in to the speak with Chop and check on the bike and each time the bike was undisturbed on display inside the shop and each time Chop assured him that the bike was cool and when my father had recovered to have him come down. Chop and/or O School Choppers, at no point made any attempt to contact my father or any other authorized party by phone, mail, email, messenger or otherwise at any time the motorcycle was known to be on consignment at his establishment. In April 2014 my uncle was visiting from Oregon and decided with my husband to take my father down to O School Choppers and check on his bike. Chop was in the front of the shop when they arrived with my dad in his wheelchair and unable to communicate-his bike was right there too. Chop suddenly made a quick comment that there had been some storage fees accrued, but stated he couldn't give an exact figure because his accounting lady was on vacation for another week and to have me call after she was due to return for the details. I made 2 attempts to reach Chop by phone at his business and left voicemails, but I did not receive a call back. When I was finally able to reach him he told me that there storage fee owed that came to almost 3x the value of the motorcycle! I asked him to show me where my father signed acknowledging storage fees on a consignment agreement. He was unwavering regarding the total amount due, which he kept reminding me was $14,000! I ran the Kelley Blue Book value for a 1988 Harley Davidson FXRS and it is valued at about $5,000. I asked him why he never mentioned any of this to my husband on his multiple trips down to check on the bike-he stated that it wasn't his responsibility to tell us that we owed money. We have never received any kind of notification regarding this matter-neither phone call, email, nor certified mail. This only began once Chop saw my father's condition. Prior to that it was, "All good, have him come down and see me when gets to feeling better-tell him not to worry about his bike". No one can know if and when someone might recover from such incredible damage to the brain, still our family remained optimistic knowing the incredible character and will of my father. As of now, he needs assistance with daily needs and full time care. He is able to easily comprehend what is being spoken to him, but is not able to verbally express himself beyond "yes" or "no" questions which he usually answers by shaking his head. We are not interested in a monetary settlement, only for the return of my father's motorcycle to us. I am pursuing this matter legally, but it's so disgusting that someone would prey upon another at their most vulnerable time-especially someone they trust. Please BEWARE OF THIS SHADY BUSINESS MAN and remember to get everything in WRITING!!
