I left my husband in 2000. When I tried to get a loan to buy a house, I was told that we (me and my husband) had a house already and that this would be a second home. Since I had one in my name that my husband was living in, I would have to put forth a hefty deposit for the second house. I was on a limited funding and could not get the money for a house. I then checked into renting, too expensive with three children.

My last recourse was a mobile home. I then went to about ten mobile home lots and was told the same from them. Finally i went to Oakwood. They said they would get me in my own home for Christmas. I thought, what a nice present for my children. We could move out of my families house into their own rooms. I asked about the frame work under the trailer, "Was it stable?". The reply was it was the strongest and very stable.

I asked about the flooring. "What kind of flooring did the trailer have? I told him i did not like the particle board or pressed wood. His reply was" It is all definitely Plywood floors throughout. Let me show you. He then took me to the bathroom where the tub was and the wood work around the glamour bathtub was down. He showed me the wood was plywood. I asked about the siding. "Was the siding durable?" His reply was It's the best on the market!

Now this is what i have with my Oakwood mobile home manufactored in the year 2000! I recently changed out my flooring in the hallway for it has rotted due to the a/c unit having a manufactored defect in the drip pan. I recently found out that my trailer has a manufactored defect in the ventilation system. I have a problem called "wet walls". This means that the moisture in the air has no place to go, so it settles in the walls, which inturn makes the sheetrock soft in the summer.

My walls has also been changed about 6 mos. into buying this Money Pit because of the walls seperating from the wall beams. This causes a bowing effect. My roof has a sinking effect, slight but you can see it. Not leaking Yet! Because of my ventilation problem i now have a mold and mildew problem. To top all of this off the people i bought this trailer from has gone bankrupt......DOES ANYONE KNOW OF ANYONE I CAN SUE TO GET SOME JUSTICE WITH THIS PROBLEM. WILL ANYONE TAKE MY CASE???
HELP ME PLEASE!!

Hi Linda,

I have been doing research after research on this same problem. My mobile home is a Chandeleur Home which also known as Oakwood. My mobile home is just completely falling apart. My walls in the entire back of the mobile home are soaked! They are so wet that if you barely put any pressure against, you will put a hole in the wall. Matter of fact, just from opening the back bedroom door I now have a hole in the wall because the door barely touched the wall and it pushed it in. All through the back of the home you will see indents in the wall, the trim work and walls buckled and staples actually coming out of the walls. My ceiling looks like ripples in water as it is buckling as well. My light switch in hall has completely come dettached from the wall because of the sheetrock being wet. I mean it is just ridiculous!!!!!

I can forward you alot of info that will be helpful in your situation. If you would like to send me your email address I will forward this to you. Hang in there and dont give up. Just because we and others couldnt afford a brick home doesnt mean we deserve a poor built shack! And I hardly think that a home that I will have paid 99000.00 after being paid off should look or have the same qualities of a shack!
