My husband passed away on 11/14/07. I contacted Vanderbilt/ Oakwood Mortgage and was told: "We can't help you." This is their favorite phrase. I know that I purchased life insurance, just in case, and when I need help the most it just isn't there.

On April 30, 2007 my 29 year old son committed suicide, then I lost my husband 6 months later. I need help and I need it now.

I have no idea where to turn now. If anyone has any ideas or can offer suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

Vanderbilt is probably NOT your original mortgage company

Hi, I am so very sorry for your loss! Here is what you need to do, this is what I found out:

Vanderbilt is probably NOT your original mortgage company. Remember, Vanderbilt came alone and purchased a bunch of mortgages from Oakwood.

If you contact the following place, they might send you a death benefit claim form:

American Bankers Life Assurance Co. of Florida, P.O. Box 977122, Miami, FL 33197-7122. This is the "DFS Claims Department".

If they send you a claim form just fill out what you need to and highlight area "B" I believe, then mail it to Vanderbilt (after you make a copy of it) so they can fill out the highlighted area. Send a note or letter telling them where to send it to next. Either back to you, or forward it to Miami, FL.

I really hope this helps.
Let me know, keep me posted, I will do the same here as soon as I find out about my situation.
Take care, Mary

If you have life insurance you should have gotten and kept paperwork for it. Have you been through all of your loan and other documents?

The only help I see available is to find some documented proof.

Sorry for your losses and best of luck to you.
