Obie's Chinese Cresteds / Billie Lawrence / Nancy Haugsness SENT MY BEAUTIFUL SHOW DOG HOME EMACIATED AND COVERED WITH STAPH! Atchison Kansas
I feel I need to do my part in this situation to try to make sure other dogs do not go to Obie's Chinese Cresteds.
I was involved in a contract that allowed my beautiful Chinese Crested male, Atticus, to go to Billie Lawrence and Nancy Haugsness to show him to his AKC championship. He left here at 6 months of age in great shape. I have photos of him just before he left home on my website. Atticus came home 3 months later with a terrible staph infection and very under weight. His skin looked horrible!
I was very upset and could not believe that I had been told nothing about the staph infection. He was never even taken to the vet to be treated for this infection. I have been having to give him antibiotics and bathe him with medicated shampoo for 5 months now and his skin is still not back to normal. This has been a nightmare for me and for Atticus. This was my first attempt at having one of my "Cresties" shown, and it has been the worst experience I can imagine. Poor Atticus did get some points while he was with these people, but I would give them all back to have his skin in good shape again.
Please do not take a chance with your precious dogs!!

BUT I KNOW QUALITY WHEN I SEE IT.
I HAD EXPERT DOG HANDLERS AND DOG BREEDERS LOOK AT MY DOGS BUT I KEPT THEM AT HOME WITH ME!
I ONLY BRED TWO LITTERS OF PUPPIES DIRECT AND DIDN'T FEEL RIGHT ABOUT THEM GOING TO EVEN WHAT I CONSIDERED GREAT HOMES.
I ONLY LET MY VET TAKE ONE ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION FROM MY BEAUTIFUL DOG AND THAT WAS IT.
I DON'T TRUST ANYONE TO TAKE CARE OF MY KIDS EXCEPT ME.
ALL OF MY BELGIAN MALINOIS, DUTCH AND GERMAN SHEPHERD DOGS HAVE PASSED AWAY. I LOST MY LAST K9 IN JANUARY OF THIS YEAR. SHE WAS 17 AND SHE WENT TO SLEEP AND DIDN'T WAKE UP.
ALL I HAVE LEFT ARE TWO BOXERS, TWO CHIHUAHUAS AND ONE BOXER MIX. THAT'S ALL. I AM GETTING ELDERLY TOO. WE ALL HAVE ARTHRITIS TOGETHER.
I THINK THIS DOG OWNER OF THE CHINESE CRESTED OUGHT TO SUE HELL OUT OF THESE HIDEOUS PEOPLE FOR WHAT THEY DID TO THE DOG! I HOPE THE VET WILL BE ABLE TO PUT IT BACK TOGETHER SO THAT IT WILL MEET PHYSICAL CONFIRMATION BUT I AM NOT SURE ABOUT THE PSYCHOLOGICAL AND EMOTIONAL DAMAGE. DOGS ARE WONDERFUL MELLOW AND FORGIVING CREATURES BUT THIS WAS AN ATROCITY!
THIS WAS A CRIME! IN TEXAS, IT WOULD BE CLASS A MISDEMEANOR ANIMAL ABUSE.
IT IS JUST BECAUSE I WAS SO AFRAID THINGS LIKE THIS WOULD HAPPEN TO MY LITTLE PEOPLE THAT I NEVER LET THEM OUT OF MY SIGHT UNLESS SOMEONE WAS HERE AT THE HOUSE TO PROTECT THEM.
I WILL NEVER BREED DOGS AGAIN. I THINK THE LAST LITTER WAS IN 1999...
I AM SO SORRY FOR THE CHINESE CRESTED. I WISH THEY COULD PUT THE ABUSERS IN JAIL...

Your handler is a major factor in getting your titles, it is not just the dog itself. The most perfect specimen in the world of that breed still needs the right handler to win. So, you send your dog to a particular handler for a period of time while they are on the show circuit in order to have a better chance of winning by virtue and the expertise of your handler. They quite often need to travel with the dog(s). They must have some sort of bond with the dog. The dog needs to be trained to the process and to the handler. Quite often the handler best for you and your dog does not live near you. The whole thing is alot more complicated than it seems :-).
Did you show your dogs? Did they title out? I am a little confused by the statements about you no longer breeding. You don't believe it is socially responsible, but provide specimens for other people to breed with your dogs? You feel because you own the sire but not the dam you are not breeding? That's called stud service. You also feel that you don't need to worry about how the puppies end up because their is not a face to face, so to speak, breeding and you never meet the new parents and are not responsible for placing the puppies? You are still participating and to some extent breeding your dogs if you are doing this. You are still contributing and producing puppies. You are just less involved in the outcome. Did I misunderstand that post? I'd love to see pics of your dogs. *just my opinions*

EXACTLY WHY WOULD YOU SEND YOUR DOG AWAY FROM HOME IN THE FIRST PLACE?

SOMEONE COULD HAVE STOLEN YOUR DOG. HE COULD HAVE BEEN INJURED IN TRANSIT OR SHIPPED TO A WRONG DESTINATION!
I NEVER, EVER WOULD EVEN CONSIDER SHIPPING MY PETS AND, YES, I HAVE HAD EXCEPTIONAL DOGS THAT MET ALL OF THE AKC'S CONFIRMATION FOR THOSE PARTICULIAR BREEDS.
( I NO LONGER BREED DOGS, TOO SOCIALLY IRRESPONSIBLE AND I USED TO WORRY ABOUT WHAT HAD HAPPENED TO THE PUPPIES.I SCREENED MY HOMES WITH A COMPLETE BACKGROUND CHECK BUT SUPPOSE SOMETHING HAPPENED TO THOSE OWNERS AND THEY COULDN"T KEEP THE PUPPIES ANYMORE AND THEY LOST MY RETURN ADDRESS --YES,I WOULD LET YOU RETURN THEM, PRO-RATA REFUND.)
THAT IS WHY MY VET PROCURES A DONATION FROM MY BEST MALE DOGS AND SOMEHOW HAS IT PROCESSED SO ANYONE WITH A FEMALE DOG CAN HAVE THEIR VET OBTAIN THE SPECIMEN FROM MY MALE DOG AND IMPLANT IT.
THAT WAY, MY DOGS WERE NEVER AT RISK. YOU DON'T KNOW HOW OTHER PEOPLE WILL TREAT YOUR DOG UNLESS YOU MEET WITH THEM FACE TO FACE AND EVEN THEN, YOU COULD MISJUDGE A SMOOTH PSYCHOPATH!
I NEVER LET ANY OF MY DOGS GO ANYWHERE WITHOUT ME!
IF PEOPLE WANT TO SEE PHOTOS OF MY DOGS BACK IN THE DAY BEFORE THE INTERNET,I SENT POLAROIDS.
MY DOGS ARE LIKE MY KIDS TO ME.I ONLY HAVE FIVE LEFT AND THEY ARE STAYING WITH ME!
WHEN I READ YOUR POSTING, I AM GLAD THAT I HAD THAT IRON-CLAD POLICTY NOT TO SHIP MY DOGS ANYWHERE. YOU CAN NOT TRUST PEOPLE YOU HAVE NOT MET IN PERSON ---AND YOU HAVE TO SEE THEIR FACILITIES FOR YOURSELF IN PERSON!

Clarification?

There have been 4 reports filed recently, 2 on the 9th, one on the 15th, and one on the 17th. Are there any others before this you could direct me to? Are there any unrelated people who have sent their dogs to this handler and had major issues before these recent reports?
Did you actually have a contract with this handler? Were you involved in a contract with this handler, or was it just your dog? Were you upset that the handler sent your dog back to you and did not continue to show him ( If the other breeder did in fact demand that the dog was sent back and to discontinue showing YOUR dog, there may not have been a choice since the contract was with the other person)? Was there in fact an argument with the other breeder (Baldpark) involved in this situation?
How was your dog gaining points and winning while in her care if he was in such poor condition? Appearance and body condition are major factors to gaining points. These are conformation shows after all. How is he still gaining points with his new handler if his skin is in such poor condition (skin is preferred to be soft and smooth)? Let's not discount how a handler factors into any win. If she is constantly showing dogs in horrible condition that are known to be in her care, how is she winning points? This would run through the show community like wildfire I think, and would most likely reflect in her wins.
There is also the fact that hairless crested owners are quite often battling skin conditions though an experienced and knowledgeable caregiver is usually better able to prevent and/or lessen the occurrence. I don't know a crested (or any hairless animal) owner who has had a crested for any length of time which does not keep several things around to help with these frequent skin issues. Skin issues and the special care involved are generally to be considered one of the drawbacks to living with a hairless pet. I am just wondering what evidence there is of actual improper care as opposed to it just being a fact of life which goes along with that particular look.
I am not saying I believe anyone to be wrong or right. I'm just asking for some clarification and wondering if there may be something else behind these reports. *just my opinions*

I was never in a contract with this person I was in a contract with her friend, Baldpark, and her friend chose to send a Woodcrest dog to me to be shown along with one of her own. I was in a contract with Baldpark it included one of her dogs and one of Woodcrested dogs to be shown. After only a few months with me showing baldpark got mad after I had gotten four points and a three point major on Woodcrests dog Atticus. When I got the major on him baldpark threw a HUGE tantrum yelling at me because baldpark "thought" her dog was better and should have won. Baldpark didn't want Woodcrest's dog to finish before her own so she demanded I send him back and I did. Again after only a few months of being with me he left here with seven points including one major and to this day has only gotten a few point here and there. Baldpark has not spoken to Woodcrest since Atticus went home and Baldpark when on a tiraid to bash her at that time. I guess now they are "freinds" again.
