Complaint Review: ODFL Old Dominion Freight Line Inc.

ODFL Old Dominion Freight Line Inc. We sent shipment and it arrived late. Cost us $1800 and they charged us full price for shipping. Dayton, Ohio

We sent our shipment on the exact date Tom (ODFL Rep) told us to ship it so it would go from Ohio to Las Vegas in the time frame needed.  They said it was a 4 day ship, so we gave them 5 days.  We got to Vegas and no shipment. It took them 6 business days or 8 full days to get the shipment there.  They told us they drive on the weekend, but they don't count them when it comes to ship days.  According to their own sales rep a 1000 lb box got lost in Indiana for 4 days so it didn't show up on time.  That cost us $1800 to rent equipment in Vegas.  Not only will they not reimburse us anything for that, they said we have to pay full price for the shipment because the shipment was not "Guaranteed". "Guaranteed" cost 25% more per shipment and we weren't aware of that option anyway. I asked him point blank in front of like 3 or 4 people, so if the shipment is not guaranteed than it can show up at any time (even like a month late) and you still have to pay full price. His answer was "Yes, that would never happen, but yes you would." That is ridiculous and horrible service for a trucking company that's been around for years.  I will never send anything through them again and I would suggest you don't either unless you use the "Guaranteed" service.
