On February 22, 2004 I ordered a computer hard drive from Office Depot. The reason I ordered the drive from Office Depot was based on the following ad information:

Maxtor 120GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive
Save $80

$149.88 - $30.00 Maxtor Mail-In Rebate - $30.00 Office Depot Mail-In Rebate - $20.00 Instant Savings = $69.88 #678808
This ad was good through February 28, 2004

After ordering the drive I mailed the rebate to Maxtor and learned the rebate had expired before Office Depot offered it.
I feel Office Depot should make the Maxtor rebate good on the drive and honor their ad as published. I do not believe I should pay the $30.00 for their false advertising. I should receive a total of $60.00 in rebates on the drive.

I have sent them numerous emails and they refuse to respond. I know they are receiving the emails because the automatic responses come back saying they will respond within 24-48 hours.

Why didn't you go back to the store with your receipt... complaint emails to corporate would help

#3UPDATE EX-employee responds

I was an employee of store 956 in Seattle, WA from 1998-2003

This is a genuine complaint but it seems so easily resolved. Did you try taking your receipt back to the store and asking for the rebate?

Perhaps my store was better than most, but we had problems like this happen sometimes and we always took care of the customer at the register, with no problems.

I don't see how complaint emails to corporate would help... your local store is the store that would be best equipped to solve the problem. Mainly because they need a REGISTER to issue you back a $30 credit - an email can't do anything to give you money. You don't even mentioning your local store to TRY so I have to assume that you didn't...

I think OD makes a pretty good effort to satisfy their customers and make good on rebate errors. But if you don't even try... what is there to complain about??
