Officer Johnson Pennsgrove Police Department BRUTALLY SLAMMED ME TO THE FLOOR IN THE POLICE DEPARTMENT WHILE THE CHIEF OF THE POLICE, THE MAYOR AND OTHER OFFICERS LOOKED ON. PENNSGROVE New Jersey
Sunday morning while leaving a local night club I periodically work at, I and 30 to 50 people witnessed the police engaged in a traffic stop 50 to 75 feet away. I and others were upset by the meaningless harrassment of patrons as they were on there way home. The officer(Johnson)who made the traffic stop heard us voicing our displeasure and approached us to ask "if we had a problem". We all replied that we had no problem. I then told him we could say whatever we wanted say. He then said we had to leave the area and walked back to the original traffic stop. While we were preparing to leave the officer pulled up in his patrol car and said that I was under arrest for not leaving the area. Only me. He put handcuffs on me very tight and threw me in the police car. I did not resist. When we arrived at the police station he grabbed me by the arm and pulled me out of the car and proceed to the door of the station jerking me back and forth like a little kid. I told him I was not resisting and there was no need to pull on me like that. The Police Chief(Gary Doubledee) and the Mayor(John Washington) were in one vehicle witnessing the arrest and other officers(Ofc. Moore and others) were standing outside of the station as I was being jerked inside. Once inside the door Ofc. Johnson slammed me onto the floor head first with my hands cuffed behind my back. He then taunted me by saying "what did you say now? Umph!" Making a reference to the sound I made when I hit the floor. I said don't worry I'll have a lawyer this week as Chief Doubledee walked by not uttering a word. My pockets were ripped open as he took my wallet, keys and other articles out of my pocket. I was pushed in a cell for an hour and a half and later released with a notice to appear in court for failure to disperse and resisting arrest. There were several witnesses at the station and on the street who can attest that there was no resistance. I believe my rights have been violated.
