Complaint Review:
Ohio Steaks
I worked for a reputable meat company in Colorado, and took a job with Ohio Steaks upon moving back to Ohio. It was the biggest mistake of my life.
At my "interview" with owner James Stewart,I was told I was a management candidate because of my experience in the business. A few days later I started working for him and noticed some strange things. For one, I was among only a few people there who had a driver's license. Most of the guys there drove without a license. It seemed I was always paired with one of the many heroin addicts who couldn't drive themselves. I also noticed most of them had criminal histories, and would go into people's homes!! There was one guy there who, after selling an elderly woman, went into her bathroom and stole her prescription pain meds. He and his partner were stopped in Logan, Ohio a short time later, where both were arrested. It made the local newspaper,so you can use it as a source. The guy got to keep his job,and was finally let go for smoking crack in the meat truck in a church parking lot, which was caught on their security cameras.
Compared to the quality I was used to selling, this stuff was crap. The owner gets the meat cases for $70, and then the "salesmen" go out and sell them for up to $300 a case. The company is operating without a solicitor's license, and has an F rating with the BBB. The meat is put in freezers on trucks with NO inverter or dry ice to keep it from thawing out. No wonder so many people got sick from this crap.
Take a word of warning from me: If these guys show up at your home, call the police. They will probably find an assortment of drugs as well as outstanding arrest warrants. They are the reason I got out of the business.
