Don't believe Oishi "Sushi" Restaurant's sign of "all you can eat sushi $19.95*". We took our daughter in for her "last meal" before she left to go to Africa to join the Peace Corps. PLEASE NOTE: We questioned them about any restrictions on the "all you can eat" sushi BEFORE ordering (we ordered regular menu items).

Well, #1 - the sushi made my daughter sick (she threw-up in their ladies restroom)..needless to say, she didn't finish ALL of it. #2 - Here's the catch--because she didn't finish every scrap on her plate INCLUDING THE RICE (per the manager), their policy is to revert to menu market prices...our $19.95 all-you-can-eat came to OVER $55 (total bill almost $100). Talking to the manager didn't bring any resolution. BEWARE--Manager's mistaken justification for this is that every "all-you-can-eat" establishment have the same policy.

Not only did the food make my daughter sick (and she LOVES sushi), we were swindled into paying three times as much as advertised because the plate wasn't "licked clean". DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS ESTABLISHMENT!
________

*NOTE: They have changed their sign to read "$35 all-you-can-eat sushi FOR TWO" -- DO NOT BELIEVE THIS ADVERTISING "HOOK", YOU WILL PAY TRIPLE THE $35 AND QUITE POSSIBLY GET SICK.

As it was our first (and last) experience with a Sushi bar, I'm not arguing with the knowledgeable person who rebutted, however, if you'll re-read my report you will see in the third sentence that we asked them about their restrictions and the "all you can eat" policy BEFORE ordering.  Our waitress only mumbled something about paying for the rice if you couldn't eat it all.

My rip-off complaint is that we asked PRIOR TO ORDERING and were NOT told about how much it would actually cost if all the food wasn't consumed.   Thanks

First of all, there is no way your daughter could have gotten sick from the food, because it takes 24-48 hours for signs of foodborne illness to occur. Had the sushi been the cause of her vomiting, it would have happened 1-2 days AFTER eating at the restaurant, NOT moments after ingesting the food while still in the restaurant.

Additionally, except for buffet-style sushi restaurants, EVERY sushi restaurant I've ever been to charges a fee for every piece of sushi that you order but do not eat. This includes rice balls, too. This common policy is usually stated at the bottom of the menu, and is put in place so as to prevent the wasting of food and the sushi chef's time. (Remember, sushi is a form of art that takes more time to prepare than other foods.)

I've never had any problem ordering as much as I've wanted at any all-you-can eat sushi establishment; however, ALL are quite strict when it comes to charging for "leftovers" that you order but do not consume.

A tip to remember: All-you-can-eat is synonymous with eat-what-you-take. Taking or ordering food that you do not eat is wasteful, and as you found out, may have financial consequences.
