OK Marketing, Inc OK Marketing Magazine Scam Kittredge Colorado
I was scammed on 6/17/09 in the Hy-Vee parking lot. I've been approached for 6 years by these "college students" asking me to buy a magazine subscription and I have always declined. But this time I hadn't bought my husband a Father's Day gift yet (this was 4 days before) and since this guy said all of the exact same things the "college students" had said for years, had all of the same pamphlets to show me, etc. - I decided to go ahead. I should have known when he said he preferred cash that it was a scam. . .but no warning bells went off. I told him I don't carry cash and so he said a check would be fine as long as it didn't bounce! It was cashed on 6/22/09. He had told me it would take about 6 weeks for the magazine to arrive so I didn't worry the whole month of July. But last week (two months after I handed the guy my check), my husband said he had a feeling I was scammed. I found this website among others and realized that he was right. I lost $71. :(
I can't believe these people can steal and get by with it. I've seen that a few people have been arrested, but I think my guy (on my receipt his name appears to be Chris G, on my check "Grant" was written on the front but no one endorsed it when they deposited it) is still out there - he's probably moved on to another scam by now. I know eventually this lifestyle will come back to haunt these criminals, but that was money that my family (a one income household as I'm a stay at home mom to my 16 month old) will now forever be without. I've learned my lesson never to give money to anyone who approaches me or for any product that is not then immediately placed in my hands - but it has been almost a week since I learned of this and I'm still extremely upset.

I've been defrauded myself in the same way. However, one thing my bank is going to try to do is to return the check for lack of endorsement. OK Marketing banks with Wells Fargo bank.
If this goes through, you have to watch your account activities very vigilantly. I'd check it on a daily basis. The moment your account gets your money redeposited, Wells Fargo will temporarily withdraw the money from OK Marketing's account. Then immediately close your existing account, and then re-open another account so this way the check is no longer good even after endorsement. You still get your money back. That's what I'm going to do.
