One would think the Oklahoma Attorney General's office's Consumer Protection division would at leat allow consumers to research companies among the many files there, right? NOPE. Complaints filed with the Oklahoma AG's office go into a BLACK HOLE where consumers cannot access them.

The AG does not even have the lame rating system of the Better Business Bureau; the complaints simply are not public record, no way, no how. After much questioning and letter writing, Drew Edmondson, the current AG, finally replied to me in a letter, stating that the complaints are NOT public record.

States can apparently opt out of the Freedom of Information Act, and state Open Records Acts don't mean zip if an agency chooses not to let the files be publicly accessible. Some Consumer Protection, huh?
