We order feather pillows from our supplier in California, total wholesale cost of the same 2000.00 us dollars. When the pillows arrived here we were told by Old Dominion that, we needed to pay them 1000.00 US Dollars for freight which of course is ridiculous by any standard shipping practice, so they kept the pillows, even our supplier try to talk to them (since it was his sole decision to use them in the first place) but to no avail, he cursed them and implored them but they insisted on the ammount to be paid or there would be no products delivered and on top of that they starting to add storage fees. My safe advice to anyone or any Company DO NOT USE OLD DOMINION FREIGHT LINES..!! Trust me THEY ARE A RIPPOFF ! If you still have any questions please call me I will give you the details, by the way we're a 20 years old company established in Texas.

My problem with ODFL

I'm sitting here in my office waiting on them to show up now.  They promise to be here before 12, but never seem to show up.  I Hate getting shipments from this company.  They never seem to do what they say.  Last shipment they delivered, I had to call the corporate office to get the delivery because they kept saying they would be here and never came.  If I was a shipper, I would use anyone other than ODFL, just to save my customers a headache.

I can give you some insight as OD recently led me in a 3 year lawsuit in which we won....

We would call OD and get freight quotes giving our dimensions weight class and discount and they would give us a competitive rate close to what we were getting with other carriers.  When our bills started to come in they were much higher then initially quoted.  After speaking with our Sales rep Steve Brennan he indicated he didn't know why and would look into it...

Now I look back through our litigation on the $80,000 they were suing me for including a 10k counter claim from me for damages to my product.  Now I see whenever I called my Sales Rep Steve Brennan he would write internal notes that we were having density problems and would retain our account until litigation would ultimately prevail. Essentially I look back and see that if Steve had gotten a certain provision that he promised us we would never have gotten into this litigation.

At the end of our litigation through all of the creepy things this awful company dragged me through a jury of 12 people thought that we were right and threw out their 80k suit and gave me my 10k in damages.

Although it looks like I came out ahead by dragging this process out for 3 years my lawyer fees were through the roof...

Old Dominion freight company cannot even give out the correct quotes on low density items their CS reps don't even know what it is... And their website calculator does not calculate it either if you go to their rate system and put in your info and change the cubes the calculator doesn't work it doesn't change the price whether it's 50 cubes or 5000.

If you call their CS reps they don't use it, I called up a few times during our litigation and once I received an incorrect quote i had to specifically say "ma'am this is a very light item are you sure it's right"...   In order to get a correct quote she had to talk to a few people and the rate quote system took 25 min...

This company is crooked if you have light weight stuff...

If you have heavy stuff they may be good but pillows fabrics bulky stuff do not ship with old dominion.

If anyone needs to use my litigation case it's filed in Montgomery county KY Old dominion vs. Magnaflex Industries

Density Rules ...

I just stumbled across this posting this beautiful Sunday morning.

So - where do I begin - I guess the first thing I can do is ask that you reply with your Pro #.

But if I had to guess, probably what happened was the shipper (not you) made the arrangements as you said, but didn't enter the correct "freight classification" on the Bill of Lading (BOL).

OD, like every other trucking company, has a Weight and Inspection department, which is ENTIRELY acceptable and legal. Federal guidelines permit us to inspect the freight of new shippers - basically to ensure you are shipping what you say you are and as much as you say you are. Just like the airlines, we have to manifest everything we ship. We have to know if it is an explosive, corrosive, made of granite or in your case, made of feathers. These different materials affect the way trailers are loaded, to ensure they don't roll onto their sides when the go around turns, or that they are not loaded too heavily.

So - back to the point. Without the Pro # and some investigation, this is ALL speculation. But am in the business, and have worked in W&I, so I am almost willing to bet that this is what has occurred.

Old Dominion is a very good company and I personally am very regretful that you had a bad experience with us, however, even though we are in the business to make money, just like all the rest of trucking companies out there, we do not arbitrarily increase shipping costs without good reason. And trust me, the federal government ensures this. They are the ones that make the rules - including the one that allows us, as a carrier, to correct shipping costs, and REMOVE discounting, as a result of incorrect shipping practices of behalf of the shipper - again, not you, if I am reading this correctly.

The reason we attempted the colllections from you could be a multitude of reasons - including one of maybe your shipper hadn't been paying his bills when he had been shipping you freight via our company. It all comes back to you. You ultimately ended up with the freight. This is true regardless of the carrier.

Sooo - my advice is that you forward me the Pro # you were given and I will see if there is anything that I can do at this point to assist you. At the very least, I will be able to explain to you the real reason behind all of this.

I hope to have the opportunity to assist you and I hope that you have a better understanding of how the system works.

Oh - and Old Dominion was founded in 1934 - so we are no spring chicken ourselves.
