Complaint Review: Old World Kennel Rottweilers

Old World Kennel Rottweilers Von Der Alten Welt Rottweilers Dishonest and unethical Breeder that cheated us out of $800.00. Beware! Monterey Tennessee

I have known John Bernard from Old World Kennel Rottweilers for quite awhile now. In spring of 2014 we put down an $800.00 deposit for a puppy out of his female Tiana von der Alten x Ex vom Gruntenblueck. His website states that if a puppy is not available he will reimburse the deposit.

Sadly, Tiana only had one female puppy. He told us that even if this one puppy up being show quality that he would not be able to guarantee 100% that we would get her and told us that he is really tight on money because of owing quite a few people a deposit so we told him to transfer our deposit to his next breeding which he said would be either with Tiana von der Alten Welt x Ismar von der Tonberger Hoehe OR Olivia von der Alten Welt  X Dago vom Turnleberg.

Our agreement was that whoever he had a litter out of first, we would get a puppy. He said that he is going to have a litter first out of Olivia so we waited for a puppy out of her. On the 28th of December 2014 I got an email that stated Olivia had been bred to a different stud named Kito. I had voiced some concerns over the German Rottweilers' energy level on a rottweiler discussion forum that he found out about so when I asked why a different stud was used than what we had agreed upon he told me that " Before I get a refund on any deposit, I am going to need to come clean with people on that forum and tell them the real story." The funny thing is, I did tell the real story.

Our conversation ended with me saying we would take legal action against him. In the meantime, I sent him a certified letter which he refused to accept and sent back to me. We were in the process of filing a court case against him when he sent a message on facebook asking for me to call him if I want it resolved. When I called him our conversation didn't get anywhere as he AGAIN wanted me to put a post on the forum stating what I said had been wrong and said that only if I did that would he pay me the deposit back.

In a later message he then said that HE would write a statement for the forum and that if I accepted it and copied, pasted and posted it and sent him proof of doing so, he would start making payments on the deposit. The statement was false in a lot of ways as he kept pointing out that he didn't owe me a deposit due to him originally having had a puppy available but me turning it down which was not the case.

I wish someone would have warned me about this unethical breeder that lies, steals and extorts money from customers. The worst part about it is that he claims to be a Christian which was one of the reasons I chose to go thru him but it just shows that not everyone that claims to be a Christian lives the life of a Christian.

I hope this is a warning to anyone out there considering doing business with John Bernard, think twice, because if he treats you anything close to how he treated me you will be out a lot of money and will have no puppy to show for it even a year later.

People Can Write Whatever They Want On The Internet, But The Real Truth Is Oftentimes Completely Different

There is so much more to this story. But the bottom line is that "JenMT" sent a deposit on a puppy, under a written agreement that once that puppy was born, she would be expected to follow through and pay for the puppy and provide a good home for her. If for any reason she changed her mind, or was unable to pay for the puppy when final payment was due, she would then lose her deposit.

A puppy was born, and soon after JenMT was looking for one reason after another to try to break her agreement to follow through on her commitment. Because there were other buyers on the reservation list that were more than happy to move into her spot, we agreed to send JenMT her deposit back, although I explained to her that  according to our reservation policy which she agreed to in writing, she technically should have lost her deposit due to changing her mind. But before the deposit was mailed back to her, JenMT contacted me and asked if she could put her deposit towards a future litter that we recently announced. I phoned her and agreed to do this, but explained that if she backed out again for any reason whatsoever, that she would lose her deposit, and under no circumstances would she be able to get a refund if she refused another puppy. She agreed, and we held her deposit for a future litter.

To make a long story short, our next litter contacted a terrible virus within days after they were born and we lost the entire litter of ten puppies. Jennifer demanded her deposit back, and we agreed again to send it, but only after explaining that we were doing so as a courtesy and not because she was entitled to it. This apparently angered her, because she started spreading lies and rumors about our kennel all over the internet and also with an agency that reports bad businesses. Once we found this out, I decided that she would not be given the refund under any circumstance whatsoever.

Again, there is much, much more to this story than anyone probably cares to read. However I am writing up a time-line that explains everything in perfect detail as to everything that we went through with JenMT. I was told by several individuals after I accepted JenMT's initial deposit that she has a reputation of reserving puppies from other breeders and changing her mind, and I am now convinced that this information is spot on. In fact, looking back I remember that when JenMT first asked to reserve one of our puppies, she needed to make payments on the deposit, because she was waiting for another breeder to refund a deposit for one of her litters. This of course was a red flag for me, but she said that the reason she was changing breeders was not due to changing her mind, and gave me some other story that I now suspect was most likely untrue.

Regarding our deposit policy, this is for the protection of our puppies. When someone commits to reserving a puppy from us, they are making a promise that should not be taken lightly saying that when our puppy turns eight weeks of age, he or she will have a new home and family to go to who has the time and resources to see that the puppy is raised, exercised, and socialized in a healthy and safe environment. This is what is best for any puppy, because staying longer with the breeder in a kennel environment is not ideal during the developmental months. We have worked with many buyers over the years that have reasonable explanations as to why they must delay getting a puppy from us, and if it was done with a reasonable amount of notice given to us to allow us time to find another suitable home, than we have worked with them. However, when a buyer shows a pattern of changing their mind again and again, or even worse spreads lies about us or our dogs and threatens to destroy our reputation, then no refund will be given under any circumstance. This is exactly what JenMT did, even after we TWICE agreed to refund a deposit to her that she was not technically entitled to.

I will be posting the time-line sometime within the next week or two showing a detailed and dated record of our entire correspondence with JenMT. If anyone desires to see an actual copy of our exact communication with JenMT, we are happy to email it to them.

Purely A Liar and Scammer

John Bernard had sent me a message on Facebook letting me know he was going to be making $50 payments to refund my deposit. I received one payment of $50 and that was it. PLEASE do not do any business with this liar that clearly just breeds for profit not for the love of the breed. Someone else contacted me on Facebook and said he sold her friend a dog with a bad heart and refuses to refund her money as well ( I have a copy of the convo).
