Complaint Review: Olympic Animal Sanctuary

 Stephen Markwell who runs Olympic Animal Sanctuary housing over 130 special needs dogs, in many people's opinions, fits the description of an animal hoarder. One says this because even though he makes hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations, according to the non-profits tax returns, he has NO paid employees, including trainers, cleaners, rehabilitors, nothing. Not one paid employee according to the return. When you house that many special needs animals, you should have MANY paid staff and MANY volunteers. He also spends very little money on veterinarian services. The way the animals live is just heartbreaking. According to pictures and even a video, they either live in cages, crates and/or pens. The flooring is straw. Exercise? No way. They live in these conditions until they die because when they go to Stephen Markwell, they are promised heaven - what they get is h*ll. He should not be taking in animals because he cannot properly care for them. His excuse? Money. He needs more and more and more money. When he gets more money, he doesn't spend it wisely. One must have the resources in place before they decide to take in so many animals and operate a 'sanctuary'. The only time he will allow a media person inside is when he gets notice. Then, he will call on people to help him clean up. The media does not see all of the animals, either and they do not see the reality of how these animals REALLY live.
