I was scammed by www.onemodelplace.com. Over a year ago I discovered their site online and read all the stories about thousands of models getting contacted for work and what a great deal onemodelplace.com is. They make it sound so easy and so inexpensive.

Well 1 year later I have finally realized the truth. They are a scam!!!! I have cancelled my membership with them three months ago but still I get charged every month. No matter how many times I call I still am getting billed. Oh, and all those jobs out there that I was supposed to be contacted for all were non paying TFP's (Trade for Pictures) and almost all of them wanted me to be nude or doing some sort of porn.

If you are thinking about joining www.onemodelplace.com I would strongly reccommend against it. I am out several hundreds of dollars because of those rip off artists....

While I can't speak to the billing issues that the person who filed this Ripoff Report had, I can attest to the following:

a) I am a professional photographer and I've been both a paying and a non-paying member of OMP for about 21 months.
b) I've never had any billing issues with OMP, either when I had a paid Platinum membership or a free Bronze membership.
c) I've made contact with and worked with large number of models I would not otherwise had easy access to (if ANY access to) and have been VERY happy with the results I've gotten.

OMP is a GREAT resource for photographers who are looking for access to professional and semi-professional models to work with. Models interested in paid, tear sheet and TFP/TFCD work are numerous and available in a wide range of ages, looks and areas of expertise. If you're looking for a great resource through which to make contact with a large number and/or wide range of models with whom to work, I don't know of another resource that offers so much access so easily and so professionally.

OMP MAY also be a source of new business for some photographers, depending on the kind of business they do and how they present themselves. But OMP is not, nor in my experience do they claim to be, an agency that will find work for or send work to photographers or models. OMP provides an on line meeting place for photographers, models and people who work with photographers and models. Used in a logical and professional manner, it's a great tool. If you're looking for a web site to make business for you, OMP doesn't claim to do that. If you're looking for a resource that can make your work a LOT easier ... I have found OMP to be fabulous.

OMP is a way to both find people to work with and be found by people who want to work with you. The more you put into your profile and sample photographs, the more beneficial results you'll achieve.

I can and do strongly recommend OMP as a resource for creating contacts and stirring up potential work for both serious photographers and models.

Misunderstanding the Business Model?

#6UPDATE Employee

Wed, June 02, 2004

OneModelPlace.com is not an Employment Agency, a Modeling Agency, or a photographers assignment bureau.

It is a networking Web site intended to be a tool to help models, photographers, makeup artists, and others working in the industry communicate, network, and help educate each other about the various segments of the industry. It also provides those members with tools

While many media media outlets (TV, Film, Magazines, etc.) do cast from OMP, it is not the site's sole purpose, and it is never even suggested by OMP that it is a place to supply employment.

Many models, photograpers, etc. do get plenty of work from OMP because they use it as an effective marketing tool. But not everyone who signs up for OneModelPlace is going to recieve offers for work.

When you buy a toolbox, the hammer, drill, etc. inside of it do not automatically build a house for you. You have to use those tools effectively to build a good house. Merely having the tools is not enough.

And the sad truth is not everyone can be a model. Anyone can try, and OMP is a low-cost (or Free) solution for many to see if they have what it takes. But being a model is not just about being attractive, it's about being a good business-person. As a model, you are a business-owner, and you have to work hard to make that dream happen. And in some cases, all the work in the world will not make it happen if you have unrealistic expectations.

To Address this complainant's specific concerns:

1) If any user of OMP has billing concerns, all they need do is contact the head office w/ a copy of their reciept, and the issue is taken care of immediately. The only way a user can continue to be billed after they leave the site, or are removed from the site for abuse, is if they have set up a recurring payment through PayPal, which OMP has no control over. It is the responibilty of the user to go into their PayPal account and stop those payments.

2) In looking through the OMP database, there is no model by the name of John from Rossford, OH and never has been.

3) "John" claims to be out several hundred dollars for a one year membership. The only way this is possible is if that user paid montly for the ABSOLUTE HIGHEST level of membership, which is normally only used by models or photographers who are working full-time in their fields.

A yearly membership at the highest level, paid yearly is only $250.

Additionally, There are Free memberships for anyone who wants them, with memberships ranging from $50/yr., $100/yr. and $150/yr. Depending on the number of photos they wish to display on the site, and the number of extra tools they wish to have available.

OneModelPlace also prides itself on great customer support, and works hard to protect models by removing abusive users and scam artists. This is a constant challenge for us, and we remove abusive members from the site every day.

OneModelPlace has more features and users than any other site on the Web - (100,000+ Models, and 70,000+ photographers, stylists, managers, etc) who all found the site, and chose to be there. And they have no outstanding issues with the BBB. So we must be doing something right.

In all honesty, as someone who works with the system every day; it is by no means perfect, and while we try to accomodate users to the best of our abilities, the majority of OMP detractors come from that segment of users who have been banned from the site for abusive use (contacting models inappropriately, making fraudulant claims, etc).

We regret having to lose any positive, constructive member of the OMP Community; and most issues can be quickly handled by calling the head office.
