One Step Plumbing & Contracting Corp. Granite Pipeline Inspection. Failed to pay me for 5 weeks work, vacation pay & statement of earnings. Markham Ontario Canada
This company bounced 2 paychecks on me after working away from home (hotel) in frigid conditions & long workdays. These bounced checks totaled a month of work. The company also failed to pay me for my last weeks work with them, so a total of 5 weeks unpaid. The company also owes me a substantial amount of vacation pay to which they have also failed to pay.
I called the company several times (cell & office) & got no answer. I strongly feel they are avoiding contact with me. I discovered the company owners residential address & called him at his home. I asked him why he hasn't paid me or sent me a statement of earnings so I may apply for EI & was verbally scolded for calling his residential phone. He refused to discuss the matter & told me to call the office the next day for an explanation.
The next day I called the office and the phone number was out of service. I called his cell phone & he answered. I asked him about my monies & statement of earnings & he said he was sending me a letter instead to explain his situation of why he is not going to pay me. I have not yet received any letter from the company.
I live alone in a rented house. I have no money for rent, no food in my fridge, no gas in my car and am facing eviction.
The Ministry of Labour is handling my case (so they say), but they claim it may take anywhere from 8 to 9 months to begin the process.

Still no word from the company. They fail to return any phone messages or emails sent. I recently discovered that all of us (employees) were ripped off by Jeff Wright. We are discussing a small claims lawsuit to collect our unpaid wages. The guy is a total deadbeat, driving around in his $60,000.00 truck and pulling into the driveway of his half million dollar home, ripping off the people that worked hard for him.

February 8th, 2008: Another week gone by with no wages, no statement of earnings, no replys and no answered phone calls. One Step Plumbing & Contracting Corp. / Granite Pipeline Inspection continues to show total disregard for the Employment Standards Act & my rights protected under the act.

Monday, Feb.4th, 2008 I received a letter from the company. They informed me that they were making deductions from monies owed to me for courses that the company had paid for and wages paid to attend those courses. This, they say, was done in accordance with their procedures and policies and that I and all other employees of the company had agreed to. The company gave me 48 hours to respond to the letter either by mail or by email. I responded by email on Monday, Feb.4th, 2008 and requested they send me wages owing minus their deductions and proof of my agreement to their policies and procedures plus statement of earnings. I informed the company that should they not provide any of the above I will be taking further action to collect what's owing to me.
Although my boss knows the reason I quit was due to his constant ill treatment of myself and other employees, to which I had discussed with him in the past, and his often violent temper in the field, (throwing temper tantrums and equipment, yelling, sarcasm, kicking a hole in his office door etc..etc...) they say that my approach in dealing with trying to collect my wages and statement of earnings was Quote: "...aggressive, demanding, threatening and unfair."
Does anyone know a good LLP in the Durham Region area?
