OnRebate.com - TigerDirect Refuses to remit rebates, answer their phone, or return emails, ripoff Boca Raton Florida
I purchased a barebones PC kit from TigerDirect, back in early August 2006. It had six rebates, all to be submitted through OnRebates.com, totaling $230. I kept checking the status on their website, and after a few weeks four showed as being "accepted".
I tried to find out from them why not the other two, but couldn't talk to anyone. I tried several employee emails I found (on complaint sites like this one) and actually had a promise to make good on them within 24hrs. That didn't happen.
I contacted the Better Business Bureau of Florida and within 48 hours had a note that the remaining two rebates had been accepted. The reply they gave to the BBB said that they had accepted all of the rebates and would pay me "as stated in our terms and conditions" "within eight weeks".
Well, its now December 2nd and no money. I've filed a followup report with the BBB. Stay away from any company who passes their rebates through this firm. If you do the research, you'll find that this is a sister company to TigerDirect. I've discontinued any business with them as well.

Still waiting, still no final rebate

I finally received six of the seven rebate checks. They've (so far) not bounced, so I feel lucky. I have one remaining rebate ($20) that the OnRebate website said was accepted on 9/26/06 (today is 1/17/07).
Their own policy statement says that payment can take up to 8 weeks. We're well beyond that. I had a couple emails with one employee, but now only get an auto reply saying he isn't there anymore and to direct messages to a couple of other folks, which I did, including all of the correspondence to date.
I asked why the remaining rebate had not been sent and was told that it was over in the payment processing department. I waited longer, still nothing and inquired again. This time I was told that they got behind over the holidays. What holidays in late September? October? I'm thinking that they meant April Fool's Day. Now that the "holidays" are well passed, I wonder whats the excuse now.
Folks, STAY AWAY from any offers involving rebates processed through these people. Its funny that I feel that I was victorious by just getting most of what I was due. That shouldn't be. I've also emailed TigerDirect asking them to purge all of the information they have on me and to cease sending emails and catalogs. Guess what? No reply.

After updating the Florida Better Business Bureau that still no money had been received, and it was now past OnRebates own "up to 8 weeks" policy, miraculously the status of six of my seven rebates now shows as "payment sent", with a date of 12/7/2006. Conincidently (again) right after they were contacted by the BBB. I've asked the BBB to keep my claim against OnRebate open until I actually have the money in hand. I suggest that everyone goes this same route. The Florida BBB has a simple online form for filing.
I'll update as things change, if they do.
