I went in to see them on crutches that were working fine.  They sold me a boot cast and said I would be able to walk without crutches. Tried it on in the office and it made the pain worse...told them I could not stand on it, and would not be needing it.  They said I can use it in a few weeks when it gets more comfortable, but no need for me to not take it, as my insurance will cover it.

Well, I didnt wear it out.  I tried it a total of three times at home on carpet...never worked.  Pretty much put the pressure right in the wrong place, instead of distributing it away from the broken bone.  Meanwhile, they billed my insurance.  Insurance covered the visit fine, but not the boot cast.  So they now billed me $200.  I went back to my insurance to see why I am billed $200 for a visit to an in network provider that should have been covered 100% after my co-pay.  They explain that it is covered...all but the boot.  I told them I didn't use or want the boot...only took the boot because the said I would eventually be ablt to use it, and it was covered by my insurance.  Insurance recommend return the unused boot to OrthoCarolina and have them adjust it off the bill.

Went back to Ortho and they tell me I could have returned it for up to 7 days but now they won't take it back for any reason...and hidden in the fine print of one of the many forms you signed, you agreed to this policy...as well as agreeing that you will pay for charges that your insurance doesnt cover...

I am no idiot.  I know I have to cover what my insurance doesnt pay...but I am not in the habit of wasting money on things I don't need, want or use.  I now have a brand new air cast, unused and in perfect condition.  But out $200.  I can only hope you do not get ripped off like me...

In hind sight, I should have insisted they take the boot back right then...and reading all that paperwork to make sure they don't slip in a wacky little deadline...well, I guess I can save on sleeping pills.
