In 2002, I settled a student loan with HEMAR Insurance with Jay Beck. Now 2 years later I received a call from OSI Education Services, which is a collection agency, demanding payment for this student loan. After immediately disputing the loan, I did not hear from OSI for almost a month, although they promised to send me the promissory notes within a week. At the end of May, I finally heard from OSI again asking if I had received the paperwork. For the 3rd time I told them I had not and demanded to know what kind of scam company they were running. The lady admitted she did not know. Finally, on June 9th I received the promissory note and indeed the loan they were trying to collect was a SETTLED LOAN!

I tried contacting HEMAR but the person there refused to talk about it. OSI meanwhile is running around like chickens with their heads pulled off. I have faxed them the settlement paper from HEMAR along with my letter to HEMAR accepting the settlement. Thank God I kept all the paperwork on this matter.

I have a feeling HEMAR and OSI have pulled this scam together many, many times in the past. Please be aware of what they are trying to pull. If you are a victim of either of these 2 companies - by all means post here and notify your Attorney General's Office as well as the Ombudsman for Student Loans and the FTC which governs collection agencies.
