When I opened my Verizon bill I was wondering why the charges were higher than normal. After looking over my bill I found a section labeled Billing for The Billing Resources. I had never seen this before on my bill. It stated "The following charges appear on your Verizon bill as a service to The Billing Resource. Direct your billing questions to the phone number on the right or write to P.O. Box 6111987 San Jose, CA 95161-1987."
The phone number listed on the right is 1-800-270-5405. Under this information is Billing on behalf of OSP Communications Billing questions call 1-888-296-8079. There is an operated assisted call billed to my Verizon phone bill on June 9th at 6:42 pm from 209-835-9835, from Tracy, California; which is for 14 minutes and cost $20.20 plus taxes.
"For questions concerning your bill, call the number listed at the top of this section. The calls on this page were forwarded by The Billing Resource the clearinghouse agent for OSP Communications." I called Verizon and was told to call the number on the bill. I called the number at the right. It gave me their hours of operation (which were pacific time). I called Verizon back and she said to call the number on the bill. So, I called the second number on the bill. When I phoned the number to the right, it had an automatic caller ID and stated my phone number and asked to verify the number I was calling about. After verifying the number, it then gave specific times and days (pacific time) that they were available. It also gave a redirect number which is 18664600837, I hung up and called this number, which promptly disconnected my call.
I called Verizon back for a third time and asked to speak with a manager. I explained what had happened. As I was put on hold I went online to check out this OSP Communications company, it was listed as a scam. When the customer service lady came back on the phone, I told her about this. They were not aware of any scams. She took care of my bill- reversing the charges and taxes applied. I also asked for the fraud department number (for Verizon) to file a legal action claim. I called Michigan Public Utilites Commission and filed a claim with them as well.
If it wasn't for this gentleman from New York posting his story to Rip-Off report I would not have had any verification about this scam! I hope that people look at their phone charges otherwise this "company" will be walking away with money that doesn't belong to them.
