OSP Communications Fradulent Collect Call Charges Nationwide
In January of 2008, $14.37 worth of collect call charges appeared on my verizon phone bill. According to the bill, I had accepted the charges for a 9 minute call from California the previous month and was being billed by OSP communications via The Billing Resource. I thought it rather odd that I would accept the charges for a collect call. Firstly, I don't know anyone in California, and secondly ... THERE IS NO PHONE ATTACHED TO THE LINE IN QUESTION. The line exists solely for the purposes of DSL.
There is not now nor had there ever been an actual phone attached to the line so I was quite interested to know how I could have possibly accepted charges during an "operater assisted" call, let alone talk to my imaginary buddies in California for 9 minutes. Red flags went up immediatey.
Verizon told me I would have to contact OSP Communications to contest the charge. None of the phone numbers on the bill itself were helpful so I googled the company and found this thread. Calling one of the numbers listed on this forum for OSP Communications led me to a rather cheesy recorded message that asked me to hold the line for the next representative. Twenty minutes later I was still on hold. I hung up, believing by now that the whole thing was a scam.
I called Verizon back and spoke the fraud department. I am still waiting to hear back from them. I will let you know ...

After 3 hours of being shuffled around from department to department, Verizon refunded my money. However, they didn't seem to care much about the supposed fraud. They simply refunded my money and sent me on my way. I guess this is why these fraud companies never get shut down. It takes hours to fight the charges and then the phone companies don't really care that you were scammed in the first place.
