I purchased a $350.00 futon from Overstock.com after reading very good reviews of the product from their own website. We received it quickly and set it up. Then about 6 weeks later it breaks. We called overstock and they said that after 30 days there is nothing they can do.

Beware of purchasing furniture from Overstock.com because they can sell you junk and there is absolutely no accountability. The futon is completely broken, and it was rarely used. We are out $350.00 and a trip to the dump. Don't order from a company who could care less about the quality of the product they are selling.

You hit the nail on the head Russell. I'm sorry your futon broke as well Robyn, however Overstock did not manufacture the futon. Their return policy is very clearly spelled out on their web site and you posting a report for their company on this website, given the nature of this website, is misleading and completely inappropriate, not to mention immature.

Overstock didn't make the futon, they didn't break it, and they did nothing wrong by refusing you special treatment because your item happened to break after the 30 day return window passed. You're upset because they didn't break their own rules just for you. Too bad. That's how the real world works.

The product received great reviews, you said so yourself. Obviously there is absolutely nothing wrong with the quality of the product, otherwise I doubt the reviews would be so positive. You're suggesting that because your specific futon broke, that the futon is a piece of junk. I work in the appliance industry and I'll tell you what I tell any customer who comes to me to complain about their appliance being "lousy quality" ...call the manufacturer. Make some attempt to actually contact the company who MAKES the thing before you whine and slander the seller, as if the middle-man has anything to do with the production of the thing.

If you had bothered to actually refer to the documentation provided by your futon, I'm sure you'd have noticed contact information for the manufacturer and more than likely information on the item's warranty. Furniture comes with warranties just like appliances. I know, my dining room set, my sofa, and my bed all came with warranties. If you weren't in such a rush to blame Overstock and trash the thing, you might have gotten it replaced under warranty.

And you were very careful to make sure you mentioned "the futon is completely broken, and it was rarely used" ...completely broken? First of all, why would you spend $350 on a futon that you would "rarely use"? And second of all, how exactly does a futon "completely break" under normal circumstances? I had a futon for years. Sometimes I sat on it... sometimes I slept on it. Neither one of those activities could possibly cause a piece of furniture to "completely break". I would bet hard cash that either you abused it in some way, or have kids that abused it in some way. Kids jumping on a futon, horseplay, people using it for something it isn't intended to be used for like a stepping platform, etc. sure might cause it to "completely break".

I think that not only are you being dishonest here, but that you should be ashamed of yourself for slandering a reputible company that did nothing wrong by refusing to break the rules for you because you had a gripe about a product you probably broke yourself. And you got so worked up that you needed to take out your anger on someone, so instead of taking the time to look over the documentation that probably spelled out your warranty policy, you trashed the thing. Too bad for you. Looks to me like you're responsible for the item being broken, you're responsible for not being able to get it replaced, and so you're responsible for you being out $350.

Next time take a minute to relax and think things through, and maybe you won't make the same mistake again.

Return Policy

Most legitimate online business's have clear return policies, and most if not all have 30 days policies. So I am sorry your futon broke. But "Overstock" did nothing wrong here. However, if it were me I would of issued you a 10% coupon or something for your aggravation.

There is extended warranties for just about everything. If you are interested in that let me know. I can give you information.
