I know of three individuals personally (including myself) in one little town, that all had debts to one particular hospital that were paid off with documentation to prove it that found themselves *months* after the debts were paid getting calls from this company. Repeated attempts to collect on a debt that's already been paid, even getting something put on our credit report. In the end each of us responded differently, but one had to threaten them with a lawsuit to get them to go away, I got away with disputing the credit report change repeatedly until they gave up on trying to refile it. I think there's some serious blame to be held for the hospital sharing enough information for them to know exactly what's going on, but the fact that they have repeatedly continued to hassle people after proof of payment was provided says that the hospital certainly doesn't take all the blame.
