On approximately 5/10/10, I responded to an ad on Craigs List looking for a video editor. I was told I needed to complete 4 sample projects so the company could see what my abilities were.

Those sample projects were completed right away and after not hearing anything for a couple weeks I contacted the company.

(6/3/10) They said out of 780 submissions, I was in the top 20, but not the top 10. They asked if it was ok to keep my information on file so as jobs came up they could contact me.

(8/15/10) After a few email exchanges, I was given my first 2 projects to edit. They were completed within 48 hours.

I inquired about how I would be paid and they asked me to complete a W9 and email back to them which I did on 8/28/10.

After that I did 2 more projects and inquired as to when I would be paid. From that point on is when things started to become a little unclear. I was being emailed information about when a check would be sent, which never happened. Then I was told a check was sent, which never arrived. As of today, I have not been able to get a response from phone messages or emails. Its been 2 weeks since any correspondence and I have yet to be paid.

Additional Information-

My concern with all of this is based on a few things.

  1. Company does not have a physical address, although it is presented as if it was an actual building.

  2. Continued promises of full time employment and continued work, all of which have never materialized.

  3. Company has a W9 form signed by me containing my SS# and other information. Im concerned what this now may be used for.

  4. Have never met or spoken to company contact Steve Garfield. He only does email.

  5. When calling company phone number, I only have the option of speaking with someone who only takes messages.

  6. Someone from company has been to my house twice to drop off DVDs.  Both times DVDs were left at front door even though I was home.

  7. Last correspondence was 2 weeks ago saying check was mailed and I should have gotten it. There has been no follow-up by Mr. Garfield on this.

  8. I have many email exchanges between myself and Mr. Garfield backing up all above claims.

  9. Total due $1400+

I hereby certify that this is a true statement to the best of my knowledge

Responded to a Craigs List ad in May 2010 for a video editor. Completed first of four projects Aug. 28, 2010. Three other projects completed soon after that. Company had me fill out a W9 form and email it to them end of August. At that time I was told checks were mailed the 20th of each month. When that time came and went I contacted them. There were many email exchanges at this time all containing reasons why the check was or wasn't sent. Last response was 3 weeks ago saying check was mailed from Florida. two weeks prior to that. There has been no followup, no return phone calls or emails.

I've found out this company has no physical address, only a PO Box. I've never been able to speak with Steve Garfield personally. They've had my W9 for 3 months and I have not been paid anything. Total due $1400 plus I was told there would be

additional compensation for one of the projects I had to re-edit.

Still nothing

Unfortunately, the previous December 1 post was nothing more than additional BS. This company feels sorry for what I'm going through and would like to help?? Are you kidding? They have not returned a single phone call since this happened back in August 2010. Recent attempts to reach them now find a phone number temporarily disconnected. If they're so concerned about me and the reputation of their company, why have all requests to help me locate this person who supposedly ran off with my money gone unanswered? If I owned a company and someone whowas workingfor me did this, you can bet I'd do everything in my power to help resolve the problem immediately!!

You Have The Wrong Company/Individual

#5UPDATE Employee

Thu, December 02, 2010

After a number of years, I guess it was inevitable our business would appear on at least one negative website, especially when you factor in how many of our clients we have helped overcome negative posts about them.

We also have made quite a few enemies just by the very nature of our business. We make our clients dominate the first page of the search engines, thus angering their competition.

This complaint was made by a person that was not EVER employed by our business.

It has come to our attention though that someone we did contract with to help with the overflow of all of our business, may have hired this person and not paid them.

Our business did not have a contract with the person making this post. Our contract was with the other party and he was paid in full.

Once we were made aware of the situation however, we were in the process of helping this individual until he began making negative posts about our company.

We work in an industry that is top heavy with less than scrupulous operators and for our firm to have services hundreds of clients for this long is a testament to our desire to do right by our clients. And that has not been easy. The SEO/SEM and Social Media business is very difficult to educate the client and set reasonable expectations. Especially with companies telling mistruths and flat out lies about what they can do.

We, on the other hand, under promise and over deliver.

It is unfortunate what has happened to this individual and even though we hold no responsibility, maybe we can help him, as long as he no longer causes our company any further harm of our second most valuable asset, our reputation (our first being our clients.)

The person listed in heading of this post "tony seruga" is not correct and should be removed. As per original report, the contact name at PageOne is Steve Garfield.
