I contacted Shane Salyers, owner of Palisades Blue, to perform duct cleaning on our furnace. During the phone consultation with him, he quoted me a price of $15.00/vent and I told him we had 8 vents and 1 cold air return. He said that would cost $135.00 and possibly $50.00 in addition to that for sanitizer if it was needed.

Also, at this time I asked if he had a truck-mounted system because I have severe allergies/asthma and I can't afford to have all of that dust and debris introduced into my home's internal environment. He assured me that he did. In addition, he told me that he didn't take credit cards at that time and it would have to be paid for with cash or a check.

I was unable to be home at the time he performed the service and Mr. Salyers dealt with my husband. I then received a phone call from my husband stating that it was going to cost $290.00 for all of the services. I permitted that and had my husband ask once again if the system was truck-mounted and ensure that anything taken from our ducts would be transported directly to his truck. Again, Mr. Salyers said "Yes." My husband ended up writing Mr. Salyers a check for $340.00, because apparently the sanitizer was needed and that was an additional $50.00.

The problems I have with Mr. Salyers are as follows:

1. HE DID NOT USE A TRUCK-MOUNTED system. Not only did he lie to me twice on the telephone, but his add online with superpages states that it is. What he did end up using was an air-compressor and a shop-vac.

2. His quality of work was awful. He took apart all of our duct work in the basement, made a huge mess, and did not clean it up. In addition, when he turned on the furnace after he supposedly cleaned it out, it blew black dust and debris out of all of the vents.

3. He stole my money. He told my husband that the best results using the sanitizer could be achieved if we waited 24 hours between cleaning and the application. He set up an appointment with us to come the following day at 4PM. (I called him the day of and asked if he could come around 4:30PM due to a scheduling conflict, and he said that would be fine). He never showed up and performed the service for which we paid him for.

Both I and my husband called Mr. Salyers for a combined total of 7 times and he did not return our phone calls or perform the services which we paid him for. Basically what he has done is taken our money and run. I want to prevent him from doing this to other hard working people in Columbus.
