I got a call today saying to call this 'collection agency". So I did, and it turned out to be Palisades collections. They told me that I have an outstanding balance on an old Verizon account from 2001, from an old college apartment. They said I needed to pay it right away or they would mark it as "refusal to pay" and come after me with late fees, etc.

I told them I'd never heard any word about owing money, and asked why this took SEVEN YEARS to catch up with me, and they said that several notices were sent to my address, and since I never replied, they were now taking matters into their own hands.

They said that Verizon was sold to their company...I didn't even HAVE Verizon at that time in my life. But the jerk on the phone, Jose Tavares he said his name was, was telling me that I needed to pay it and was asking for an exact date and time. I told him Friday at six, but I wanted all the records first. He said they would be mailed to me. I told him I wouldn't pay anything til I got them and he said, well, we have you down to pay on Friday by 6pm. If we don't hear from you by then we will be coming after you.

I have no intention of paying them. For one thing, it's been SEVEN YEARS. Aside from all that, he kept asking if I had my checkbook handy and that they could just do a post-dated check right there over the phone. Very pushy, rude individual too.

I'm reading on here that this has been happening to a lot of other people recently, too. Although I'm sorry to hear that, I'm glad to know that I am not alone.

What happened with your story? I'll keep you updated on mine.

Be safe.
