A young man came to my door one day selling magazines subscriptions. He said it was a contest for his senior class to win a trip. He seemed very sincere about it and was respectful and so trying to help the youth of today I ordered a magazine. I wrote the check out for $40.00 which I thought was a little high for a magazine subscription but I figured some where a long the way I have spent $40.00 on worse things.

I thought maybe I did a good thing for this kid's high school, and nobody wants to think a young kid could be involved in something like this. I guess I was wrong. I guess society is a lot worse off than I care to acknowledge.

About eighteen years ago, I, too, was a door to
door sales rep. That company was called North American Book Sales. Seems we had the same sales spiels that I am reading about palmetto. I will never forget the awful experience that I had. I
was verbally abused, threatened and practically
starved to death.

All that to work twelve hours a day, sixdays a week, for a daily stipend of six dollars, No matter how many subscriptions I sold.

I often wonder who got all the money that I earned
rain or shine walking around for miles a day. I was once abandoned in a lighting storm with no
umbrella and no shelter for two hours. Stranded in
a strange neighborhood in the dark. I have never been so frightened in my life. I left the crew a week after that. Yes, they tried to brainwash me.
However, I could not see how the selling of magazines had anything to do with my overall worth as a person (as they wanted me to think).

The whole concept was absurd. The people that ran the place were really a bit off the wall. How someone could operate such a business for so long
in this country is beyond me. I can not believe it
is still going on!!! Beware!! do not let your children fall victim to these monsters!! I was
lucky. I got out. I lost a lot in the process, including some important personal documents that were stolen from my room. To this day I think someone is roaming around with my ID.
I don't know if any one ever received a magazine. My focus the whole day was to make a sale so that I would not be threatened with physical violence or abandonment by my driver. I will never forget that fear.

No one on the crew makes any money. It is
modern slave labor. It was true then and I am sure it is true now. Most of the salespeople do not realize that. Some of them are just too young and naive to get it. Don't blame them, blame their superiors.

Hey everyone...um, I worked there too and I also want to share knowledge of the company...TO THE PEOPLE WHO ARE "SUPPOSEDLY" GETTING SCAMMED: YOU ARE!!! TO THE KIDS WHO SEND YOUR REBUTTALS: YOU ARE F*CKING BRAINWASHED!!! The company makes you think you are nothing without them...well guess what...I am feeling absolutely wonderful since I left...I don't feel as worthless as a certain manager said I would!!! TO THE PUBLIC: some of the kids really are honest they are just brainwashed...and it is hard to go home at the end of the day and know you are gonna have like 20 people breathing down your neck telling you, you suck...but then I have knocked doors with some shady f*ckin' people too...and Cynthia...YOU SCHOOL SPEAL LIKE A MO-FO!!! Shut up I have knocked doors with you before...what you people who are complaining need to do is look on this website and look at the names posted if they come to your door then yes FREAK THE HELL OUT but some of the kids are just sincerely "trying" to win a trip because they dont know any better...oh yeah and to all the staff...TEAR IT UP AND GET A BUNCH...or TAKE IT DEEP whatever you want but HIGH 5 anyway...toodles

I'm an employee of PMI! I don't know what's going on out here but I do know its not a scam. You do need to make sure that everything does go through on the receipt's or you won't get your magazine. I don't sit here and tell people I'm with a local high school or college. One lady helped me out back in New Jersy and had me lie to her husband about being with the local high school just so she could help me out. I felt like crap afterwards. Most of the girls that work with PMI don't give school spill's but guys on the other hand do. I've been to doors with some of the guys and heard them tell people they were with a local school. I don't approve of it at all. I just wish that some of the managers would open up their eyes and look around. If things don't start getting better I'm gonna pack my crap and leave this hell hole. It's not worth it. But don't listen to everyone on here saying its a rip off because its not. I get family fun every month from another girl because she didn't want it. So give us a chance. And if we come knocking on your door ask us to make sure that everything went through so that YOU WILL GET YOUR MAGAZINE!
