I am writing this in hopes that it will prevent someone from being ripped off. A young woman appeared at my door on an early Sunday morning. She gave me a sob story about how she could not afford college and, consequently, was selling magazines to finance her education.

She described her organization, Palmetto Marketing, as a charitable organization that sold magazines at discounted, school rates. She even went so far to say that I could write this purchase off on my taxes as a donation. (Except for the $10 "processing fee"). Unfortunately, this purchase cannot be written off because the reciept clearly states "We are not affiliated with any local high school or college." So there goes the discounted, "school" rates and the charitable organization notion.

It gets worse, the young woman gave me a web address for the company where I could find a phone number. Of course, the website does not exist and with a little research, I found out that Palmetto Marketing is actually a sales and marketing company specializing in timeshares. I figure they give out false information in order to make cancellations of transactions impossible.

So, the next time someone shows up at your door trying to sell you magazines, politely shut the door in their face.

I never thought I would be taken by Palmetto
Marketing, since I used to live on Wiles Rd
1/2 mile from their office when I was in Coral
Springs,FL

Both times in VA when their reps came to our
house, the reps claimed they were students from
the "local" high school. I had my doubts to that
as I had to remind the fellow what the name of
"his" school was. My wife ordered 2 magazines at
higher than normal subscription rates. We never
received either magazine.

The second visit was a " pretend to be perky
cheerleader" from the "local high school" I knew
she wasn't, because I'd been to football games &
had not seen her before. Also she didn't seem to
know the name of the school either. The "local"
high school is less than a mile away & everyone
knows the name & all about it, but she didn't.

I'm sure they are taught to come on to people in
that way. I did not buy from her & told her to
get lost & reminded her that our development is
posted "No Soliciting" These people never seem
to understand those signs either.

Excuse me.. I used to work for this company and I know you are lying cuase for one, We dont even work on sunday and two we arent encouraged to say we are from any high school or college, so therefore it is the sales agents wrong doing and not Palmetto Marketing and third, If you had read the fine print before you signed.. then you would have saved some money...I think its said that people have to wine over 30 to 50 dollars when these people that sale you a magazine are just trying to make money like everyone else. You people dont realize how much of a hassle it can be all day long putting up people like your self.
