I was approached by two young gentlemen identifying themselves as seniors trying to win a trip. They sold me two magazines, one of which was a magazine for my three year old and I never received anything. I spent $48 hard earned dollars on this magazine since it was suppose to be used as an educational tool for him. I thought by purchasing it from the young men it would also help out their cause too. I am a single mother supporting myself and my son and I am outraged that we were taken advantage of in such a manner. I tried to do something nice only to find out that it was a scam at my expense. Something has to be done to rectify this situation. The money could have been used in many other ways that would have benefitted my son and the people responsible are horrible human beings.

Call the publishers directly, as well as your bank

#2Consumer Suggestion

Thu, October 07, 2004

Hi,

I'm sorry to hear about this, I'm also a victim like you, but due to a different company called NBAF.com they charged my credit card and never submitted my order to the publishers. I realize these are two different companies, but as a consumer, I wanted to share some advice with you that may help you either get refunded, or to hopefully have the magazines delivered to you.

First, call the publishers of the actual magazines themselves to see if the company that charged your account ever submitted your order to them (your order may still be in the processing stages and about to start, some magazines take 8-12 weeks to start, especially if ordered through a third party)
If your order has not been submitted to them, some magazine publishers will honor your purchase and process the subscription (you will need to send them proof of payment) but most will only do this after 120 days has expired since your purchase date.

Next, if you paid by credit card (whether it be a visa check card, or regular credit card) contact your bank and ask to file a regulation E-dispute (this must be done within 120 days of the actual purchase date) the bank will investigate your complaint and refund your money while they are investigating this company. Had I known about the regulation E, I could have received a refund from the bank, but because the publishers couldn't help me until after the 120 days had expired, it was too late for me to recoup my money, as I wasn't aware of the regulation E until it was too late for me to file one. My advice is to contact your bank today, please don't wait.

Somebody needs to put a stop to these type of companies, I'm also from New York, I will never give up my pursuit against NBAF, I've already contacted the BBB & the Attorney General's office of the state they operate out of, next stop on my list is to my political reps, newspapers in the state they operate, as well as television stations where they operate. We may not be talking about a lot of money here, but imagine how many thousands of people are being ripped off a day, to me, they are pocketing tons of money by ripping people like you and I off, it has to end somewhere, and I for one hope to be one of the people to put an end to this unacceptable practice, and attempt to get justice for all consumers faced with this situation. The laws need to be changed drastically to ensure these people are punished accordingly.

I wish you luck, I truly hope you can resolve your complaint soon. If you do, please provise an update.
