They advertise they're hiring sales consultants.....Bob Stevens of Automax sales training leads you to believe that you're hired...then you show up for "training" and lo and behold there's 30 other people there...so I knew something wasn't right....after the first day of "training" he tries to sell us on his company's lifetime job placement for only $99....so i'm thinking why do i need job placement if i'm starting with Parker? sure enough on the 2nd day of "training" he informs us that Parker's only going to be taking on 16 of us but he could place us elsewhere if not chosen by Parker Nissan. Later in the day he becomes more vague as to how many of us are going to be hired but says they'll be calling some of us in a few weeks. The Parker finance director Darwin Grote comes in and blows some smoke up our butts for a few minutes and tells us what a family oriented dealership they are. Ok so jerk people with families around for 2 days? I've lost faith that there are any honest dealerships around after working for a couple and having worked in the auto industry in other capacities. Hope your conscience is clear knowing you do what you do for the almighty buck!!!!!!!!

I worked with Bob Stevens selling cars at a Chrysler dealership in NJ. He was a good guy then and I assume he is a good guy still. I know for a fact that he was presented with an opportunity to work for AutoMax while employed there. He was offered the position because he really knows the business inside and out.

I think sometimes when people file these reports they let their emotions get the best of them and they present biased or "limited" info to make their argument. From what I remember, this is how the process goes:

1. AutoMax contracts with dealer to recruit and train

2. AutoMax places ad and invites promising candidate to training following a phone interview.

3. Recruits are offered a position following completion of training program that they pay for. (This training, which is comprehensive and employs best practices for the auto industry is one of the best programs around and I believe includes the placement service). So, once training is completed, the recruit is placed with that dealer or another.

4. After a predetermined amount of time (usually long enough to make sure the recruit hasn't or isn't going to quit) the dealer reimburses their training costs. Let's face it - 12 hour dealer days suck and there is a lot of turnover.

The previous post mentioned getting something for your money (like a resume service) for it to be okay to charge. Well, you get more than that. You get training materials, training, and a zero cost education after fee reimbursement (not to mention a new career whereby you make more than the vast majority of the population and most likely get a comapny car and auto manufacturer backed benefits).

While I was working at the aforementioned dealership they used AutoMax for new hires. I befriended a young guy, whom previously made peanuts in a casino service job, and he was very well trained and excited about the opportunity. 10 years later he's still at the same dealership (in management for a while now) and does very well.

You may want to contact the Nissan dealership and let them know what transpired. They may not be aware of this type of "recruiting".

As for the recuriting company, any legitimate company NEVER asks for money up front. They either get their money from the employer who hires one of their people, or they get a fee from you AFTER you are hired from a job they got you into. Now, if this fee he asked for up front included things such as writing a Resume or other similar services that may be okay.
