I am a disabled individual. I have a life-threatening, long-term illness. I'm unable to own or drive a car. I've used Pasadena Taxi Cab frequently in the past 12 years and have had no problems or complaints.

Until today. I used my debit card to pay a cab fare of $5.80, and was told by the driver that the minimum would be an additional $1.70, due to the fact that it was being paid for with a credit card. For the round trip, I paid $14.00 (from 3302 Burke Rd. to TGF Haircutters at Fairmont and Preston). In addition, I gave each driver a meager $1 tip out of my billfold.

I don't believe in nickel and diming people to death, but I live on $12,000 per year in disability.

I have an extremely difficult time making ends meet, and I'm aware that that's my problem. I am also aware that the owner, like so many other exuberant capitalists, isn't the least bit concerned about it. And I probably shouldn't be concerned about such a petty sum, but it's the principal of the matter we're talking about.

It's as obvious as the noses on their faces. They are making part of their living dishonorably, and in the process, have been guilty of exploiting people like me, who have to watch every penny. I don't feel I should have to pay a penalty for using a debit card for my own personal safety.

There's also the fact that the poor ethical standards of the owner's son are reflected in his tone of voice, which is excessively punitive and immature for a businessman.

I feel strongly that this policy is fraudulent, predatory, and contemptible in consideration of disabled individuals like myself.
