Defective Engineering in Passats. Body frame allows water intrusion inside the passenger compartment thru the pollen filter and sunroof drains. Servicing not defined in service manual plus extremely expensive to clean and repair. Problem on Passat 2001/2002/2003/2004 models. Volkswagon won't take responsibility for service action on the car. It stated that 'moist debris might clog the pollen filter and sun roof air plenum drain area and water could leak into the passenger compartment and into the brake booster and Transmission Control module. There is nothing in the service manual plus car was serviced once per year and local Volkswagon dealership never once recommended servicing and cleaning the drain lines. We submitted the claim for Transmission Control Module ($1800.00 part plus $500.00 for labor) and they denied it. Volkswagon said that due to the cars age warranty/recall was denied. Luckly USAA insurance covered the expense because it was caused by water damage. Mclean, Virginia
