I purchase a 2003 VW Passat on Thursday, 8/7/08. The next day I discovered fluid was leaking under the car on my garage floor. I thought it was oil so I took it back to Payless and told the owner about it. He said to take it by an oil change place to see if they could see any leaks. I did and they did not find any. That same night the malfunction indicator light came on while I was driving. I noticed more fluid on the garage floor and realized it was transmission fluid. I had a mechanic plug in a diagnostic tested to the car and it showed an error code that indicated that the malfunction indicator light came on due to a problem with the transmission. I called Payless again and the owner advised me to take it to a tire repair shop where he had had work done on it in November of last year. (Brakes and axle rods) I took it in and they said a seal was bad in the transmission housing and it would cost $892.00 to repair. I called the owner of Payless and he said he would not pay for it. I had only had the car for one day before the problems showed up and do not feel like I should have to pay for the repair. We argued about it and he told me to get off his car lot and never come back! I certainly don't think this is good business practice and they apparently don't care about their customers.
