PayOff cars was recommended by a friend as a way to purchase a vehicle at below market prices> I contacted the company via the net and was referred to Mr. Salomon. I expressed interest in purchasing eithe a Toyota Corrolla or a Honda Civic in either blue or black with auto transmission and AC. I forwarded a deposit of $1000 via pay pal on June 6. The State Employees Credit Union of MD(SECU) pre-approved me for a loan of $20,000.

Mr. Salomon located a vehicle at the Manheim Auto Gallery in PA. I was to meet him at the gallery on Thursday, June12, in the evening to look at the car. I contacted SECU to arrange for the issuance of a check as I would need to forward payment within 48hours to "close the deal". On Wednesday, a loan officer from the credit union contacted me to report that the credit union would not finance the car because Mr Salomon could not provide a "buyers order" because he did not hold the title to the vehicle.

I contacted Mr Salomon to report this and to cancel the deal as the message from the credit union seemed an omenious warning and I was not willing to finance the ppurchase vial a personal loan at a much higher rate of interest. I requested that my deposti be refunded. Mr Salomon is not willing to refund the money until the vehicle is sold. He alleges that he has been charged penalties, fines, and will incur advertising costs to sell the vehicle which he alleges that he purchased. He doesn't have a lot nor does he hold the title to the vehicle.

Obviously, the "former employee" is actually Solomon. The writing styles are so similar.
Google PayOffCars and all u see is complaints. The website isn't even up anymore. I am still waiting to hear from this supposed lawyer. You put it perfectly, he knows exactly how to operate, so that there is no recourse when he rips you off.

The sad part is Solomon knows me personally. He knows not only am I an engineer but I have a side business that I run. So, the $20k I lost with that junk car caused me a lot of frustration, I had no choice but to walk away b. I think it is clear how it is dealing with that man, all you have to do is read how he responded.

I am a strong believer in Karma. I told him I would come back and get a Q7 after a year or so (before we had our falling out). Not only did I get my Q7, but I traded it in recently for an X6 (beautiful car, driving it feels like cheating on my wife lol). So my car problems are no, more, and I am pretty confident that Solomon is no longer ripping people off. He may come back and say that he is selling 100 cars a day, and that he is going to come after me for slander, but i doubt it is the truth. I now look back at the experience and have to laugh.

Your loss

Dear Electrifying Engineer....Same basic personality profile that I experienced with Mr. S. I only lost 1000 and countless nights of sleep and more stress than I shhould ever had in my life...he seems to know just how to operate within some laws to run his reputable business...If there is anything I can do to assist you in your legal battle PLEASE sontact me....any legal recourse that impacts upon him would be well worth my time....I tried BBB...tht got no where...I tried Consumer Protection...that got no where...prayer has helped me the most to deal with my anger and frustration...I only hope that Mr S will have to answer for his actions at some point in time...you other franchise owners must surely have some way to put some pressure on this guy,,,you are right. He is ruining your reputation and chellengeing your income...May a group of you would have a better chance of putting him out of business..The auction yard wouldn't work with me because I am not a licensed dealer..I am just one consumer that he RIPPED OFF. I can't believe that there aren't more of us out here....

Advice from another owner of Payoffcars.com

#10Consumer Suggestion

As the owner/operator of PayOffCars.com of MD, located in Waldorf MD, I must echo my fellow Greensboro, MD owner's comments. Each location is independently and operated and has no power with regard to the business practices of any of the other locations. I must agree with my fellow Greensboro owner though, that the name (PayOffCars) has been damaged and the rest of us [owners] are totally unhappy and frustrated with this negative publicity.

The message I want to get across in this forum is that we will not allow one apple to ruin the entire basket. You (the consumer) will never encounter the problems at our locations that are being discussed here. We totally believe that you build a successful business by treating everyone fairly and ethically, abiding by all laws, and looking to make each customer a referral for ten more.

I want to end by saying and echoing my Greensboro fellow, that if someone ask for a deposit upfront, ask that person to show you their dealer's license. Getting a dealer's license (in MD) is very hard to do as the MVA is on the side of the consumer and does not tolerate this way of doing business.

Defense of other Payoffcars.com franchises

#10UPDATE Employee

Mon, May 18, 2009

I am an owner/operator of one of three Payoffcars.com dealerships in this area. It is important for consumers to understand that all our franchises are independently owned and operated. The business practices of one franchise or individual(s) do not always reflect the practices of an entire company. This would be like getting bad service at an Applebee's restauraunt and saying that Applebee's is a terrible company. We all should not be punished if one entity abuses the Payoffcars name. Although I am not going to make any judgements concerning the validity of the above accusations, I understand that rumors persist and I personally have been contacted by someone who had a similar claim. The Payoffcars.com name is damaged. As an honest dealer with the very best intentions, who has a lot at stake in Payoffcars.com, this is very very disturbing to me. I can assure you that at Payoffcars.com Maryland Eastern Shore we treat our customers with honesty and respect and things such as this would never EVER happen.
Furthermore I wish to remind consumers that they are the first line of defense against fraud. If someone wants to sell you a car INSIST that they produce a valid dealer's license. These licenses are very difficult to obtain and if you're dealing with a licensed individual you know at least they are a legitimate business person. Secondly, never make a cash deposit or purchase a car from someone who is not in physical possession of the title. Not only is this illegal, but any buyer who does this is entirely at the mercy of the seller. Not a good decision.
Please remember that Payoffcars.com is a big company with many parties working idependently. I have faith in my colleagues and I know that we are all made victims by these alleged fraudulent practices, both consumer and honest dealer alike. Although some of you feel you have been "ripped off", understand that these poor business practices are NOT commonly practiced at Payoffcars.com, and are under no cicumstance tolerated at my own dealership, Payoffcars.com Maryland Eastern Shore. Thankyou.

False accusations

#10UPDATE EX-employee responds

I used to work for payoffcars.com and never remember such a transaction. They stopped selling cars over a year ago because they started selling themselves as franchises;

Your dates are fake, you must surely be an angry customer but I do not remember anyone walking out of there without a car.

What you are claiming is a serious felony not handled by the BBB but by the state police, why hasn't a complaint been filed since then?

How can you afford to lose so much money?

Why weren,t there any reaction from no one until now?

What are your ulterior motives?

And where is a proof of correspondance regarding such an issue?

Please also provide a claim number from any court of law where such a case has been disregarded?

After all these questions are answered accurately, then, and only then you can build credibility before me.

Remember, the web surfers are not stupid and can tell the difference between a the truth and lies. 50% of truth is no good enough, nor is 99%.

On the web, you tell the truth and nothing but the truth.

You have been caught slandering and might have to pay the price.

Do not take advantage of the fact that anyone can come into this website and say what he wants, because it also a felony to slander without cause at all.

Similar Experience With PayOffCars BEWARE

#10Consumer Suggestion

Mon, March 30, 2009

I had a similar situation dealing with the same guy however, he abused my good nature, acting as my "friend" and the outcome was much worse than what you went through, so consider yourself luck you only lost the $1,000 I have lost over $20k

I was buying my second car from this guy, the first one worked out great, until it was stolen. Anyway, He acted very nice, and I was proud to call him my friend, or so I thought. For the second car, he found what I wanted in the price range and mileage that I wanted just as he promised.

I actually sent him the money without looking at the car. As soon as the car was paid for the communication fell apart. He stopped answering and returning my calls, he kept giving excuses like the vehicle had damage which he was repairing ect, ect. After more than a month I made a surprise visit to check on the car.

Turned out to be a complete lemon. Carfaxed the car. Over 200k miles. The car obviously had been through a front end collision and replaced the motor and dash so it read 96k miles. I ended up having to replace a missing rear view mirror, cracked windshield, stabilizing arms, struts, engine mounts, rack and pinion, transmission, rims (front two turned out to be bad), and a plethora of other things.

Went through so much trouble trying to get him to relinquish the car which I had paid for. Went from calling to driving 3 hours every other day to get it, him promising to have it delivered to me, the police got involved ect ect.

To add insult to injury he had me come pick up the car one day after hours... He left the keys in the car for me, and when I got home I noticed, he had only given me a COPY of the title. Then he called me 3 days later saying he was going to report that I stole the car.

He promised to take care of the damages, then he promised me a bumper and $1,000 so I could take care of some of the other damages and at least get the car in drivable condition, then he kept telling me he would send me the bumper and to "look for something in the mail". Nothing came except a few annoying.... And now there is a pending lawsuit.

And you can tell by his rebuttal, he tries to smooth talk his way out of everything, citing friendship, religion, threats, LIES LIES whatever it takes. He will smile in your face and call you brother while he tells you a complete untruth... It is not worth the trouble.

Mr S's rebuttal reports that once the title for the vehicle was prepared that I, the consumer, refused to go ahead with the deal. The bank would not finance the deal because Mr. S could not produce a title. I never saw the vehicle...I was to meet him and see the vehicle prior to proceeding with the financing. Who would be so foolish as to pay for a car without seeing it first. I cancelled the deal at that point, before I ever met Mr Salomon at the auction gallery to see the vehicle. If I had agreed to the purchase I was to receive temp tags and would receive the title within a sufficient amount of time to enable registration , tags, and taxes in my home state. He is now offering me a $100 refund if I retract my rip-off report. Wow! His business reputation is worth $100. I too would like to put an end to this sad case...I work too hard for my money...

Absolutely inaccurate

#10UPDATE Employee

Mon, August 11, 2008

There is a simple and true thin line between the truth and a lie.

What simply happened is unheard of.
The plaintiff was referred to us by a satisfied customer who bought her second car with us last week. She ordered a car online and followed the procedure like most of our customers do.

Once you fill in the order, our system requires you to make an automatic
$1000 deposit. We do it now because we have had so many people like the
plaintiff order a car , make us buy a $20,000 car then back out.

The terms of the transaction were clearly specified in each of our websites(www.payoffcars.com then go to place an order and see)

We have been very successful at it for years.

This time was going to be different because this lady and her bank, even went on to say that we did not have a dealer's license.

It was an insult to us and to the intelligence of the auhtorities of the state of Delaware.

1-We asked this lady to prepare her loan prior to making the order and she said shewas ready.

2-We provided the bank with a copy of our dealer's license and other docs they requested.

3-After the title cleared, we had it available, yet she refused to proceed with the deal.

4-All we did was follow the rules and regulations of the agreement she entered by signing it and confirming it with a $1000 deposit.

5-Her deposit is refundable once the vehicle is sold back in the market according to article 7 of the agreement.

6-We have been in business too long and too well to appear little before such a situation

7-Our attorney, John L. Walter will contact you for slandering, and we will this more in details

Hoping that we have made ourselves as clear as possible, and mostly knowing that the american people cannot be fooled by such amateur internet terrorist attacks, we are looking to closing this sad chapter of 2008.
