Melinda Maher contacted me after an ebay sale
of diamond earrings she was selling "Fell Through". Sent me an invoice
w/ Paypal so as not to have to pay EBAY fees. Paid her $600 than another
$20 for Insured shipping. She mailed me an empty $1000 insured envelope
which i opened in front of the postmaster because i had to sign for it.
The Post Office noted that the envelope was tampered with prior to
being brought to the post office because the repair tape was under the
insurance sticker they apply at the post office counter with the
customer there (I have this letter) Seems an insurance scam was under
way  When i contacted her she "didnt know what happened" Miraculously i
have emails
where she FINDS the earrings and than blames her Ex hubby and her kids
were involved. She tells me since all this has happened maybe she should
now keep them and refund my 620$  Well she promised each email there
after to refund me  No refund No earrings and Paypal cant help NO matter what evidence you have, Emails admitting and letter from federal Government were not enough??  because
they can only help with an Ebay purchase under there Protection Policy

What you do not seem to understand is that "Unless you buy it on Ebay only"  Paypal can not protect you when you send money that is in your paypal account to someone   THEY Dont  legally YET (I was told by them) have the same rights as a credit card company to file a chargeback NO MATTER what evidence you have. (Pls call them and ask, beleive me i fought the fight W/RESOLUTION CENTER) From now on if you send someone money YOU HAVE TO use your credit card NOT any monies just laying in your paypal account. I used Partial paypal funds, because they take that first and the balance from Am X Thank God   American Express went to work for me against Paypal and then paypal was able to charge back Ms. Maher when they lost to AmX's proof   PS to the first writer KARMA This was never an illegal scam ebay purchase This was between 2 parties way way after the listing ended

Did you pay through Paypal?

If you paid by Paypal you can still file a dispute. Just log in to Paypal and click on "Resolution Center".

In this case, eBay didn't do anything wrong. In fact, you forfeited eBay Buyer Protection when you settled the deal outside of eBay.

You stated you purchased these earrings from eBay, then was sent an invoice from PayPal so the seller can avoid the eBay fees? So you were a willing accomplice to a ripping off eBay attempt? That is what it seems like you are openly confessing to here.

However, were you aware that eBay and PayPal are one in the same? That's right...on July 8, 2002 eBay purchased PayPal for the meager sum of $1,500,000,000 US dollars.

So, what most likely happened, is the seller sent you a forged, fake, phony, scammed PayPal invoice, which any 3 year old can make seem legit by copying and pasting PayPal logos to an email, and in effect you were a victim, as well as eBay..AND PayPal.

Next time do things the ethical way, and you will find that PayPal offers plenty of buyer protection, provided you are not BUSTED trying to help anyone skate around the system. Karma is a beeeiotch.
