Complaint Review: PayPal

PayPal eBay Sent goods to old address; stonewalled my complaint; lied about their mistake, Internet

My mistake was logging in by an old eBay I.D. However, I thought I had closed that account. Anyway, I hadn't used it in years (since 2003).

The address associated with that old account was wrong. I hadn't lived there in 8 years. eBay handed it over to PayPal. PayPal told the seller that the address on the old account was my current one. PayPal did not even check the address I had on file with them, which was the correct, current address. If they don't bother to check their own address files, why do they keep them?

The seller (he sent me a copy of what PayPal had told him about where to send my merchandise) sent my merchandise to the wrong address. He did so trusting PayPal. Bad idea. As a result, the seller got my $170.00 for the software package and I didn't get the software at the address I have listed on PayPal. PayPal notified him that the address they had for me (my former address that eBay gave them) was my current address. They sent me a receipt for purchase with the wrong address on it, too.

When I called PayPal's dispute resolution center, they said I had had the opportunity to change the wrong address when I saw it on the receipt. I did not see any link on the receipt to change the wrong address to the correct one. But I didn't worry because the receipt that PayPal sent me said the address on the receipt was UN-confirmed. (That is the opposite of what they told the seller.) I thought the seller would look for a further address or that PayPal would figure out where to send the package--find an address with them that was confirmed. They didn't.

PayPal made a mistake by not checking the address I had on file with them. Then they refused to admit they had made a mistake by not checking their files. They told me to go to the address they sent the item to and beg whomever lives there now to give me my software package back. Really! PayPal stonewalls its customers. PayPal sends purchases to any old address without checking their own files. I figure PayPal is too unreliable to do business with again.

You still cannot comprehend the fact that this was 100% YOUR FAULT!!

Paypal and Ebay were in no way responsible for YOU not updating your accounts.

And, Paypal does not "ship" your product. The seller does.

You must be a genuine idiot, because when you "checkout" on Ebay, and when you "confirm" your payment on PayPal you have the option to edit your address information.

It is real simple. You simply failed to do it.

Furthermore, it is a violation of Ebay terms and conditions to have more than 1 account with them. You need to simply update and/or change your information in the Ebay account info section.

Even if you close an Ebay account, if you go to open a new one and are truthful about your name and personal information, it will tell you that you already have an account, and will ask you to update it.

YOU are the only person liable here for your loss.
STOP blaming others for YOUR mistakes.

Lesson learned.
Grow up and get over it.

Right about one thing: is too unreliable to do business with again. And so is eBay.

Don't know who did what to whom but I have to give you credit for your statement, PayPal is indeed unreliable. Can't trust them with your finances. Ebay is worse. In fact eBay is the worst merchant on the net today. To me they are a bunch of jerks. They no longer have customer support.

PayPal is Irresponsible

#7Author of original report

When I spoke to the Customer Service rep at the PayPal Dispute Center, she told me that PayPal did not take responsiblility for the address to which it sent goods. She said PayPal made it the customer's responsibility to ensure the address on the receipt was correct. Then, of course, on the receipt, there is no link to update the address--so the customer is cooked anyway.

Would you entrust an organization like that with your money? Buying online is risky enough without the added risk of a payment processor that does not take responsibility for its actions.

Julie,

Time to grow up and accept responsibility for your own mistakes.

You failed to properly maintain your account. Period.

The mistake is yours. Deal with it.

How could you possibly blame Ebay and Paypal?
How do they know where you loive unless you tell them?

They used the address that YOU gave them.

Are you really too stupid to see this?

No rip off here.
