Back in February I received a refund from a merchant (Fixmo) for an app that I'd previously purchased. That refund was for $9.99. Since I rarely ever use my PayPal account, I wasn't all that concerned with using up the funds right away. Some time later I was browsing through App World and saw an app that I wanted to buy. I remembered that I had that $9.99. When I went to buy it I recd a msg saying the transaction was declined by PayPal because my account is not "confirmed." Needless to say I was disgusted.

I bought the app via credit card but was alarmed that PayPal was declining my transaction. I logged in to the PayPal website where I learned that the only way to "confirm" was to give PayPal my bank account routing number, account number and login credentials! - I absolutely refuse to do so! So....I saw a link within my acct that said "withdraw>request a check" so I clicked on that and what do you think I found - I would need to give up my bank account routing number, account number and login credentials still! These people must be crazy to think that I am giving them access to my checking account! I called their "customer service" hotline and was told that, basically, nothing could be done until I give up my information- no bank account information- no refund! this is outrageous! this cannot be legal! I explained to this girl ("Chelsea") that all I wanted was MY money and to have the account closed- no help was offered and my outrage was dismissed by the rep. Please help!

Watch your bank acct when linked with paypal

An acct of mine is linked with paypal.  Supposed to make it easier to buy stuff if you dont have the funds in the paypal acct.  Better keep a close eye on that bank acct.  I made a paypal purchase with plenty of funds available and they took it out of my bank acct anyway.

After calling their 800# and being transferred back and forth with several hindis, one of them ultimately decided to put me on a long hold.  I guess he thought that would take care of me.  Wrong.  I doubt the cost of an 800 call routed to india during peak business hours is very cheap, so I decided to place the call on speakerphone and just go about my business.  About a half hour later, I heard another hindi on the line asking if anybody was there.

He didnt offer any real help either, agreed there was funds available in the paypal acct, didnt know why my bank acct was charged.  Said maybe the merchant "didnt take paypal"  even though there was a big sign for paypal thats why I used it.  NO SATISFACTION.

Not a big deal at this point, the merchant got paid.  But a good idea to keep a check on any accts linked with paypal.

As far as my wasted time?  Well someday I'll just unlink the accts, go crazy on ebay and then renege on my acct.  Or as Steve says "walk away from it".  NO FREE RIDES!
