I thought I was dealing with Norton.  The agent said they were the exclusive service agent for Norton.

She appeared to take over my computer and said that it had been hacked and that info was being accessed as we spoke.  She said my computer was too mesed up to instal Norton Internet Security.  She went on and on showing me all sorts of things on my screen that were supposed to be proof of the mess.

Her English was really bad and she was extremely rude and agressive.  I didn't understand most of what she was saying.  She said she was going to start repairing my laptop and get it to a point where I could install the Norton pgm.  I heard an empty room type echo and radio in the background, not typical of a call centre.  I asked her if there was a charge and she said "yes".  She was too reheresd and it appeared to be a scam.  I told her that I thought it was a scam and hung up.  I turned off my computer.  I later called Norton Service and was told that pccare247 was not authorized by Norton.  The guy at Norton was in Chennai India and was really polite.  He checked the Norton installation and said that my computer was safe.  Because of the trouble, he gave me 30 days extra coverage from Norton.

I don't like these internet bandits and frauds.  I will be much more careful in the future.  Since they have an office in New York, I think I will make a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
