Penn Foster College They do not have qualified instructors. Grooming instructor has never worked as one. Scranton Pennsylvania

When I ran into a question about one of the clipping procedures on a terrier breed, I was contacted by an "instructor" named Kathy asking questions that told me she was not a groomer. I emailed her back asking for her qualifications.

This is her response,"I am not a groomer although I am knowledgeable in the subject. I have never worked as a groomer. I an a veterinary technician. I teach all of the animal related subjects." This is a direct quote from her email.

On the phone, she admitted that she had only reviewed the course so she was familiar with it. She said she has never had any other training to qualify her as an instructor. She thinks that because she is a Vet Tech it qualifies her as an instructor in all animal courses that Penn Foster has. She said I had no right saying she was not qualified because I did not know her. How can a person who has never been a groomer and obviously has never been fully trained as a groomer be called an instructor. If she was qualified why did she not tell me what made her qualified. Common sense tells one that it requires more than reading a course to qualify teaching it.

Save your money to pay for a course that you have to pay upfront to be taught by qualified professional groomers. There are courses out there that cost half of what Penn Foster charges. I only did this school because I could make payments. Big mistake.

When I originally ran into the problem I demanded to speak to the "instructors" supervisor. The Department chair sent me an email telling me that if Kathy, is unable to answer my question they would send it to the author of course. She told me to contact her if I had any further questions. I sent seven reply emails to her starting 09/23 and the last on 10/02. I did not receive a call until 10/02 late in the day and I was unable to answer call. She emailed me on 10/03. These only occurred after I said I was going to contact an attorney in an email. She said she answered my questions in her previous email. They were not. The underlined are copy and paste of original emails from her. The first paragraph is from the original and the second is from 10/03. The second one clearly states they only consult qualified trained professionals if their staff is not able to answer questions.

Thank you for your email. Please note our Dog Groomer Program was written by an independent author. The author is a qualified professional in the field of Dog Grooming. Kathy is qualified as a Vet Tech, to support the program with any questions a student may have. However, if Kathy is unable to answer a student's question; we are able to consult the author for guidance.

Our instructors are qualified to support all programs Penn Foster offers. If any instructor is unable to answer a question, we would then forward your question to our consultants who are trained and qualified in their respective field. As stated in my previous email, I would be more than happy to forward your question to our consultant.

They are willing to cancel my account and refund my money. I think this is to just shut me up. It will not work. I will be using every avenue available to notify potential, present, and past students of this situation. I will also be sending all of my correspondence to whoever they are accredited by, the BBB, and the Attorney General of Pennsylvania.

I have sent several messages to them demanding a response to this and I keep getting no real answer. Here is a copy and paste of the email I got from the department chair.

Dear Sabina,
Thank you for your email. Please note our Dog Groomer Program was written by an independent author. The author is a qualified professional in the field of Dog Grooming. Please contact me with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Deborah Zenzal
Department Chair

I have sent four replies to this to her and she has yet to respond. They obviously are not responding due to the fact they know I am correct.
