Penofin Wood Stains - Performance Coatings Poor peformance not like advertised Ukiah California
My wife and I built our retirement home;the log home we had always dreamed about. We used the most expensive type of penofin stain (red label) in what was supposed to be a light chestnut color. The houses finish turned out to be a dark brown/black.It wasn't at all the color we desired or what the manufacturer advertised. I was unaware other people had a similiar problem until I read about it on the internet.I just wish we could afford to have the penofin removed and have our house restained with a product which would give us the desired color and result. It is very unfortunate we used and believed the penofin product would perform as advertised.

Darkened Cedar Shingles after using Penofin
#2General Comment
Wed, August 04, 2010
I built my dream home in Port Townsend, WA and put cedar shingles on my home. Our contractor recommended we use Penofin on the shingles, fir doors, cedar trim and decking. After one year, the doors, decking, shingles, and trim had black spots which looked like mold. The shingles and cedar trim are progressively turning black. I stripped off all the Penofin from my garage doors (it took me all weekend to just strip the garage doors) and decking to get the mold to come off. The mold appears to be in the Penofin because once the Penofin is stripped off, the mold spots come off too; the mold appears to be growing in the Penofin.
