Like many others, I'm sure, I did not research Peoples Credit First until a few weeks went by without receiving my Platinum card.

Although my credit is not horrible I was looking for improvement now that I will be married and need to start thinking about purchasing a home, so I mailed in my personal check for the $49.The check was deposited immediately and having received no card, correspondence or additional information as promised, I went online and found this.

Fortunately, three days ago I received the merchandise catalog and the card. The information package enclosed stated I must pay 35% down on any purchase and delivery would take an average of 8 weeks.

As this is not the service I expected, contacted a customer service representative at 813-879-4752 and told her I will not be purchasing any of their products and asked that the account be cancelled and a refund be issued as I am still within my 30-day guarantee, which was outlined in the solicitation I originally received.

Helen, the customer service representative, said she would cancel the account and I would receive the $49 refund check within 7 days AFTER I returned the entire package (catalog, card and welcome information).

I have requested she send me an email outlining exactly what procedure I need to follow in returning everything along with the assurance I will be receiving a refund check.

I know I will probably never see the $49 again, even after I return the packet, I am however willing to try. I suppose even if I do not receive a refund check it is better that the account is closed and I have learned a valuable lesson.

While people can call names and throw insults about occupations or lifestyles, as far as I am concerned the bottom line is this: everybody runs into financial hardships at some point or another and with any luck they pull through quickly.

For those of us who are trying to rebuild credit and establish ourselves again, a solicitation such as this one is enticing. At 24 years old this has been a great lesson and one that will not be forgotten. Thanks to all of you who take the time to make others aware of these scams and offer avenues to channel in an attempt to find some sort of rectification!
